Dear Northeast Freepers:

Please check-in to let us know that you're safe. If you want to share your blizzard experiences- whether funny or scary - we're listening. If you need something, please say so. Maybe we can help or get word to someone who can.

I grew up with blizzards being the norm - 40 below, zero visibility, 40 mph winds and snow drifts high as homes. Natives from our neck of the woods think nothing of them.

OK tough guy, I'm going to have to call your bluff on that one!

Where exactly did you grow up? I will then research that area as I'm curious to read about blizzards when it's forty below zero.

Shoveled twice so far, about 8” maybe in SW CT. We were only supposed to get 3-6 originally. Grandkids and I are loving it but it is not snowman snow (thankfully) which is great on one hand and frustrating to shovel on the other! Everyone around me loves snow, as long as we don’t have to drive in it!

20 inches in New York city. At least is forecast. Top snow total so far is 38 inches and still snowing. Roofs collapsing in Kentucky.

And you are relying on internet statistics?

We define a blizzard with zero visibility, limited travel, snow, winds and extreme cold. I don’t care what the net says, you need to live here.

Here are some ideas:

And, we live in the Turtle Mountains, which has significantly worse weather than the folks in Minot.

I can't find a single blizzard in which the temperature was -40 degrees.

At that temperature, it is technically "too cold" to snow as the air at that temperature is too dry to support moisture. Maybe you were referring to wind chill.
