Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser apologized Thursday morning for the city's handling of a mild snowfall the previous night that snarled traffic. "We should have been out earlier with more resources," Bowser told reporters during a press conference, stressing that officials have been preparing for the weekend storm.
In a tweet, Bowser expressed sorrow, saying "the District failed to deploy the necessary resources in response to the snow" on Thursday evening and "for that I am sorry."
"We are sorry for an inadequate response," Bowser told reporters at the news conference.
Residents reported major delays in their commute home as gridlock gripped many parts of the city Wednesday evening with about an inch of snow dropping on icy roads.
Officials have been preparing for a weekend storm expected to start Friday afternoon with up to 2 feet of snow and major wind but were caught off guard by the Wednesday snowfall.
Bowser has declared a state of emergency for D.C. on Thursday and a snow emergency on Friday, requiring residents to move their cars from snow routes to avoid tickets.
Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe has also declared a state of emergency ahead of the weekend storm, with officials urging people to stay home.
I guess they didn’t let Bowser out of her kennel early enough today!
In Happy, happy LibLand, bad things just don’t happen. They wouldn’t dare.
Cant wait to leave NOVA in the future, already hating it, would rather be in Texas.
She must not have been able to find a Republican to blame it on.
I was in D.C. about 8 years ago. It snowed. They shut down the city. Snow amount.......4 inches. I laugh at that amount. We get at times 2ft in a day here.
Obviously not! LOL! good one!
They make it sound like the Washington city government screwing up snow removal is a new phenomenon. DC’s plan for snow removal has always been to subcontract it out to the Sun.
This new storm should really screw em up
Just wait until this weekend.
Anything that retards operation of the federal government has to be considered a gift from God.
“DC’s plan for snow removal has always been to subcontract it out to the Sun.”
LOL!
That was the late DC mayor Marion Barry’s response on being questioned why he didn’t return from his island vacation to deal with a past storm.
Listening to Laura Ingraham this morning, you’d think she and her kids were a part of the Donner Party.
Well that plus with global climate change, they no longer anticipate any snow.
The mayor gets a do-over tomorrow, according to the forecasts.
Well come see us in August and experience temps. of 104 F and 95 percent humidity and we can compare
No thanks. I used to live in Alexandria Virgina. Dad worked at Pentagon. August here.....high 80’s not much humidity and the locals think it is temps like you have.
Meh, all the residents of Northwest - the ritzy, privileged area of DC - need to do is wait for Sen (retired) Jay Rockefeller to personally pay for them to be dug out as he did a few years ago because his limo lib butt couldn’t get out due to lib govt of DC incompetence....same old story.....
