Military families have children overseas every day. Are we to exclude these children?

No. Military families may leave the country, but they're don't leave the jurisdiction of the US because they remain in service TO it.

They're exempted, just like the children of ambassadors and diplomats are.

One has to click through, but that's what it says in the body of the article.

"Military families have children overseas every day. Are we to exclude these children?"

At the time of the Founding, few if any soldiers were stationed overseas. So yes, it was the intent of the Framers to exclude them.

Earlier polls also had a majority supporting switching to single payer healthcare and 30%+ invading some mythical country.

Unless he changes his name constantly, claims to be born in Kenya, gets student aid as an Indonesian, and can forge an electronic pdf BC from Hawaii.

-- interpretation of the Constitution would be that Congress DOES get to define what a citizen is --

That's the make rule of naturalization part. It has that power.

Your a lawyer. So, follow the rules of law. What is the first authority for US citizenship? US constitution is the right answer, you may have a different one.

What does the constitution say about citizenship? See Art IV Sec. 2 and 14th amendment.

Does that define all of the citizens? Hell no. Congress makes rules of naturalization to define all sorts of persons as citizens.

With Cruz, his status as naturalized is clear as a bell.

How would you propose to cabin the power of Congress to "make natural", if you were to grant that power?

The honest way to deal with this is to amend the constitution, not to use rhetorical tricks to say that Congress can make NBC out any class it wants by declaring them to be citizens at birth.

So why doesn’t Cruz address this issue rather than laughing it off? He needs to clear it up.

Pray America wakes

A more expansive interpretation of the Constitution would be that Congress DOES get to define what a citizen is

Another mouthpiece of the administrative organ chimes in with a living document theory.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Military children? If the child is born in a US military installation and the parent has been sent and is serving at that location when the child is born to that person, that should count as US soil.

I wouldn't include contractors or foreign service and both parents would have to be US citizens.

You're right. But even more...

The children of military families and the diplomatic corps serving overseas are also not awarded dual citizenship at birth.

Regardless of one's feelings on the Cruz situation, the comparison with military/diplomatic families is nonsensical.
