upcoming Academy Awards telecast may be caught between Chris Rock and a hard place.
The comic actor is facing pressure to bow out as host of the 88th annual Oscars â with less than six weeks to go before the Feb. 28 telecast â over the mounting calls for boycotting the awards in response to the lack of diversity among the Oscar nominees.
On Mondayâs holiday celebrating Martin Luther King Jr., both Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith announced they would not be attending the Academy Awards to protest a second straight year without a black actor receiving a single nomination.
I don't think Chris would bail â if anything, this gives him the world's biggest platform and an excellent area for jokes that only he can do,â Dave Boone, who wrote nine Oscar telecasts and was the head writer for the 2015 edition, told the Daily News.
âYears ago when Whoopi was hosting, (scandal-scarred director Eli) Kazan was getting the lifetime achievement award. I gave her a line, âI though the blacklist was me and Hattie McDaniel.â At the time, it was a joke that only Whoopi could do.â
I’m still not watching those mega-ego rich people give themselves “awards”. But, it would be fun if the Black Lives Matter crowd crashed their party.
does everyone see the humor and illogic if he does?
Nice to see white liberals hoisted on their own petard.
They should all boycott. If there were any social justice in this world they would have at least a “token Afro-American award”, a “token Asian-American award”, a “token Hispanic-American award”, a “token no-talent but perfect attendance award”, .......
Waiting to see who the first white celebrity to join them in “solidarity” will be?
I guess we’ll all have to smear shoe polish on our faces.
Hey I have an idea, how about Black people boycott the election to protest the lack of Black (dem) candidates?!
In the 1980s Eddie Murphy was a phenomenon that singlehandedly saved Saturday Night Live. He was destined for movies, but Hollywood kept pairing him with white actors because Hollywood producers felt American audiences weren't ready for a black actor in a lead role. Finally they game him Beverly Hills Cop, and American audiences made it the number one film of all time, which to me says Americans in general are a lot less racist than Hollywood producers.
Hollywood treats men and women differently as much as they like to condemn others for sexism. Jennifer Lawrence will not have as long of a career as Tom Cruise, no matter how big of a star she is now. Her expiration date will come, another young girl will replace her and she will be forced to go on Dancing with the Stars or protesting some environmental cause with Daryl Hannah just to get attention.
Don't they care about the low self-esteem of those who don't win?
They should give out participation Oscars for everyone who was an actor/actress in, directed, produced, edited, etc. any and all movies and documentaries.
We’ll screw him too.
Personally I doubt it Bender unless he being really pressured
Rock was just a token response to the Whiteness of Hollyweird anyway
No loss
Haven’t seen Compton yet
I always think of Richard Pryor talking about Logan’s Run.
“They made a movie called ‘Logan’s Run’ that’s set in the future, and there ain’t no n$@#@s in it. I said, ‘White folks ain’t plannin’ for us to be here.’”
If Chris Rock drops out as host they can replace him with Chris Tucker and no one will even know the difference.
Jada huh? Must be Will is up for zero awards?
OH I remember that
How about Chris Rock try get neighborhood name a street after Tupac that was LMAO

That was 20 years ago. Now that he's made it, he's all about "calling whites out." He couldn't even let a white girl complain about women's treatment in H-wood without black-jacking the thread to one-up her with the "It's way worse for us" card.
Yep, in Hollywood, to get along, you go along.
