"If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog." That's how Harry Truman downplayed the importance of friendships in politics. But at a certain point, do poor personal relations impede a president's ability to get things done?
On today's Morning Joe, after rolling a clip in which Donald Trump called Ted Cruz a disliked and "very nasty guy" who can't make deals, a discussion ensued as to whether Cruz's personality would be an impediment to his effectiveness as president. Joe Scarborough was particularly harsh in his assessement, saying "it's one thing being an outsider; it's another thing being a pariah."

Pariah?Oh are You talking about Hillary and Bill?
Is Ted Cruz’s unpopularity in Washington a badge of courage, or an impediment to being an effective president?
Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
GO TRUMP!
Cruz essentially called KS Senator Pat Roberts a liar yesterday during his interview on Fox...with friends like that who needs enemies?
I saw this interview....
...and wanted to see just what he would say...
....and then wondered how I ever considered him a viable candidate
One word.....UNCTUOUS!
Yes Ted is very NIXON’esque. And surprisingly forgetful for man with the best steel trap mind and memory.
Can you believe he forgot to report 2 loans each at least $500,000 apiece ?
Haha! Um, hello, Joe? Being an outcast of either party in D.C. these days is a good thing, Joe.
I think the Washington Elite are Politically Racists. Anyone not in their club is Hated.
(Nevermind what Racist means. Shame them.)
[Cruz essentially called KS Senator Pat Roberts a liar]
That’s rich... coming from someone who conveniently “forgot” to disclose a large financial transaction from one of the most corrupt banks in the country.
.
Ok ... so was Ted Cruz accurate ?
Was Ted Cruz a “nasty guy” when he accurately verbally bitch-slapped Mitch McConnell (you know, the guy who wants amnesty and to destroy the Tea Party) ?
We conservatives (inside Washington) have been too polite, for far too long ...
I’d hate to see how “nasty” Donald Trump would be if he knew one-half of what Ted Cruz knows firsthand about the GOPe Senate.
Frankly, it would be unprintable.
.
Not belonging to the Good Ol’ Patsies in D. C. is a badge of honor. And speaking of honor,Ted Cruz never had a dead girl in his office, Joe.
Irony is apparently lost on Mr. Trump, in this instance.
Calling Ted Cruz “hated, unlikable, etc.” on one day, and then turning around and sneering/mocking opponents on the next (and telling them to pound sand if they don’t like it) is’t exactly the quintessence of logical or moral consistency.
Nor (with all due respect) is it consistent for Trump supporters to applaud this, while applauding Trump’s “brash and tough disregard for the feelings and opinions of his opponents” on the very next day.
Just saying.
Funny Joe would say this, I’ve heard that same comment about
Scarborough himself.
An “outsider” is a populist novice that will most likely take some time to to be integrated into the corrupt DC culture. Being a Pariah to corruption is evidence of a known purpose to destroy the corruption of the DC culture. When faced with evil the outsider wants to strike a deal, the Pariah wants to strike the evil dead.
I think Scarborough has a point, but the problem is that it is very difficult to find people in that true middle ground between being an “insider” and being a “pariah”. I’d prefer if Ted wasn’t a pariah, while still being a staunch conservative, but beggars can’t always be choosers.
Trump Scarborough 16: NY values
you can’t fight Washington and not be considered a pariah inside of Washington. Cannot happen. What you want simply does not exist.
don’t bring up logic in front of the new FR leftists.
while Trump was lying about Cruz, about Bill, about Hillary, about Pelosi, about Obama......I guess for the trumpanzee having a guy who’s on both sides of every issue for his entire life means never having to admit that you lie.....even though by definition he clearly does 50% of the time.
