MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Among conservatives, Donald Trump can typically do no wrong — until he attacks Ted Cruz.
On Saturday, Trump drew boos from a grassroots conservative crowd during remarks at the South Carolina Tea Party Coalition Convention for his attack on Cruz's previously undisclosed loans.
"You give a campaign contribution to Ted Cruz, you get whatever the hell you want," he said, before boos erupted from the crowd.
Trump went on as the boos grew louder: "Say whatever you want, it's okay, he didn't report his bank loans. He's got bank loans from Goldman Sachs, he's got bank loans from Citibank, folks, and then he acts like Robin Hood?"

For so many years the media picked “their favorite Republican” during the primaries, but then turned him into Satan McHitler during the general election. They loved McCain and Romney up until they ran against democrats. They’ll turn Trump into a slave owning Montgomery Burns.

I’m a Native New Yorker. I understand what Cruz was “trying” to say, but he really screwed up with that angle of attack. I’m a Cruz guy with Trump as my second choice, but I think Cruz gave Trump a Gift with this.
Doesn’t matter what we in the FR Bubble think anyway. We alone do not decide Elections, although you would think we do with all the internal bashing going on.
The Hatfields and McCoys have nothing on the Cruzers and the Trumpers or whatever derogatory names are being used around here today.
It is quite obvious that Jeb and Rubio are the media’s favorites because they will be so easy to destroy. The media has already thrown everything they got at Trump and he threw it all back. In the meantime Cruz got some criticism but not nearly as much as he would if Trump were not there taking the flak.
They were...but even they know losers when they see them. Hell, they thought Jon Huntsman was the ideal GOP nominee.

Trump controls the media, that is his strong point that so many Trump haters are missing (or don't want to admit).
They are using Trump in an attempt to destroy Cruz now.
Trump is a populist/moderate/liberal masquerading as a Conservative which makes him a fake. Trump spends more time attacking Conservatives than he does attacking democrats.
Huntsman was a media patsy, worse than Romney. Trump is the opposite, the media are his patsies.
I agree Trump should not be attacking Cruz at this point. But that's life and Cruz should answer the two attacks. The bank loans and the birth thing are both pretty easy to answer, and Cruz should be hitting back on both of those hard the way Trump would.
What Trump says about someone depends whether they are in the way of his objectives. Everyone is wonderful until they threaten his goals. Then they are dirt.

We agree on Cruz hitting Trump in return. If I was Cruz I would go nuclear on Trump. Throw every inconsistency, hypocrisy and cupidity at him with a generous helping of ridicule.
Trump’s attacks and his trustworthiness are separate issues. He does not switch from calling people “wonderful” to attacking. Most of the time he attacks the “stupid” people who he never supported. The attacks are part of his populism and appeal, but if you listen to his full speeches, they are mostly not about attacks, but about how great Trump is and how great America will be when he is president.
At the very least Cruz would get some practice. With good attacks he will forge an image of being strong an independent. The media will try to paint him as shrill or whatever, but a good attack will work if he sticks with it (doubles down the way Trump does, etc)
We had a virtual unknown here in my NY district. He ran as a TEA partier, gonna vote against the obamacare monstrosity, gonna be soooo conservative. Hanna. Dirtbag. He is not running again this year, I think he knows his number was up.
Being a virtual unknown can really work in ones favor. In the right climate. Worked for obama.
DAMN these anti Trump jackasses are sure really scared of Trump winning. It only convinces us that Trump is the real deal and only Trump.
