Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad believes the question of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's eligibility in the presidential race is "fair game."
"When you run for president of the United States, any question is fair game. So let the people decide," Branstad told reporters on Monday during a weekly press briefing, according to The Des Moines Register.
Canada-born Cruz has said that the legal case for his eligibility is clear based on his mother's U.S. birth, and he released his mother's birth certificate on Friday.
Branstad has vowed to stay neutral in the Feb. 1 caucuses. But those close to him say he's being encouraged to at least consider picking a candidate before then, and has made it clear that he would not back either Cruz or Donald Trump. Chris Christie, meanwhile, has been particularly active in wooing the Iowa governor.

Fair game and any one who didn’t see this coming is an idiot.
But questions about Obama are not.....
I have to admit I did not know how serious it was until someone posted the 1790 statue on who is eligible to run for President. You don’t have to be a Philadelphia lawyer to understand it. It is in very plain English. Ted needs to get this thing addressed.
hes entitled to his opinion... as inane as it is
he went to the Snap Crackle and Pop School of Law did he??
the clinton donor said his birther attack was all about the polls not serious concern as evidenced by his flip flopping on it
Either Ted Cruz is a original-intent Constitutionalist and therefore ineligible to be President or he is a living-document Constitutionalist and eligible to be President.
Anyone who questions Cruz’s eligibility is clearly racist.
“Ted needs to get this thing addressed.”
It might be too late:
This is similar to what has recently happened in France. Former regions have been tied together to form larger regions so fewer people are accountable to the people and the governance is farther away from local. I saw it coming a few years ago and now it is a reality. It’s all part of the Socialist dream of a new world order in which the elites rule and the rest of us are nonspeaking slaves.
And the fact that your son is the mouthpiece for the ethanol crowd has nothing to do with it, right, Governor?
So Gov. Ethanol goes birther on Cruz, just like Mr. Ethanol with New York values.
Inaction is hurting Cruz. In one poll one quarter think him not eligible. If he has the case won go get a court to agree with you. Looks bad not going to court, looks like you donât have the facts on your side.
Dems donât care if they have nothing. They hounded Palin from office, they got Tom Delay out of office and it cost him millions to eventually win several court cases.
Can you imagine if Tom Delay was speaker instead of pip squeek Ryan. Tom would HAMMER Obama.
Agree. Cruz and Cruz alone is responsible for the eligibility mess. Trump is correct, Cruz needed to get it resolved. It was a given that it would be raised. Stupid of Cruz to think he could be the nominee and stop a Dem/media attack on his eligibility.
Anyone who questions Cruzâs eligibility is clearly racist
now that right there is funny.....
and the Cruzers are in denial...... the Cruz campaign is quickly becoming a train wreck. He obviously doesn’t have his ducks in a row.
The student Ted Cruz argued as an originalist. The candidate Ted Cruz is operating as a living document Cnstitutionalist.
Forget arguing as a living document believer - his response in the debate didn’t even address the issue in a serious manner.
Ambition can change a person.
That is totally scary and EVIL!
Cruz could claim he is 1/1000th black and that would definitely give him the sympathy vote.
Republican candidates, the GOPe, the RNC, and Congress all took a pass on seriously challenging Obama’s credentials.
They have nobody to blame but themselves.
We have nobody to blame but them.
Is it any wonder folks are flocking to an outsider that won’t play dumb on the road to the White House?
Go Trump.
