Sen. Ted Cruz’s attack on “ New York values” has attracted the ire of a prominent New Yorker: Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

In three TV interviews on Friday, the morning after the most recent GOP presidential debate, Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat, excoriated Mr. Cruz, the Texas senator, for his comments the previous evening.

“We’re not judgmental, negative and hostile, the way Cruz was,” Mr. Cuomo told NY1. “In one, 30-second sound-bite, he was offensive to gays, he was offensive to women, he offended 18 million New Yorkers — one of the largest Congressional delegations, by the way, in the country.”

A Cruz spokeswoman didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Mr. Cruz has criticized Donald Trump for embodying “New York values.” During the debate, he was asked about what he meant by that. He said: “Everyone understands that the values in New York City are socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro- gay-marriage, focus around money and the media.”

“I guess I can frame it another way,” he added: “Not a lot of conservatives come out of Manhattan. I’m just saying.”

Mr. Trump responded by noting conservative giant William F. Buckley was a New Yorker and cited the resilience of New Yorkers following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

In the NY1 interview, Mr. Cuomo, along with describing Mr. Cruz’s remarks as designed to “spread fear,” said they were inaccurate: “We have a significant conservative party and movement in New York. About 30% of New Yorkers will tell you they are conservatives. Trust me,” he said, “I deal with them every day.”

Mr. Cuomo also pegged Mr. Cruz as a hypocrite for having fundraised in New York, which the senator has done

Yet he utters these words 2 years ago:

"if Governor Andrew Cuomo had his way, he's prefer it to say "ever liberal". He recently told conservative Republicans – specifically anyone who is pro-traditional marriage, pro-life or pro-guns – they "have no place in the state of New York".

But Cuomo is not judgmental.

I think he really meant forgetful, like no one would notice his judgments pronounced two years ago.

Other than Cuomo showing his spots as a career politician, when you delegate authority like successful Trump has to, you must be judgmental and fire incompetent people instead of making excuses for them.

But for Cruz, it was a throwaway line anyway. He could never carry NY. Might as well fire up his core supporters.

Cuomo it the closest thing you get to being a dictator.
Anything he wants is rammed down our throats by three men in a backroom, all of whom are in his pocket.

1. Ted Cruz was never, under any scenario, going to win New York, or New Jersey and Connecticut, where many NYC-employed voters reside.
2. Those New Yorkers (like myself) who left Manhattan did so either because a) they couldn’t stand the leftism that permeated the brick and steel of Gotham, or b) they are leftists looking for a different place to live. If you think about it, Ted Cruz doesn’t have to worry about either of these two groups.

The Governor is correct, NY has no judgment, his election is pretty much proof.

Yep, you scored.

Ted knows that his statement will cause some of those Southerners who are leaning to Trump to think about the lack of social conservatism the Donald lacks.

southerners like morality.

LOL

I remember plenty of stories out of NY about the Charleston shooter being typical of the south, inbred, uneducated and racist. They can take their faux outrage and choke on it.

As far as “NY values” are concerned its really just a generic term like “Left Coast”. It applies pretty equally to most large cities and quite a few medium sized cities.

I live the next county over from Washtenaw county Michigan (Ann Arbor) and they call us Jaxatucky as a derogatory term because we’re conservative. If they’re so ashamed of their NY/liberal values they should change them because I sure as hell won’t be changing mine. I’m content right here in Jaxatucky and I’ll wear their derogatory term proudly.

They can kiss my redneck Jaxatucky ass.
