The hope was that Rubio would rise and Cruz and Trump would stumble. That didn't happen.
The defining development of the sixth Republican presidential primary debate was this: For the first time since the campaign entered its late stage, Ted Cruz was willing to skirmish with Donald Trump, and he did it more effectively than any of the dozen-plus other candidates who have tried before him.
He also made an uncharacteristic error. Halfway through the evening, the Texas senator reprised a campaign trail attack on Trump's "New York values," knowing that Trump would retaliate by characterizing it as a slander against 9/11 first responders - and it boomeranged on him.

Mr. Goldmann Sach Cruz, who covered up the reason
he allowed the vote on SECRET ObamaTRADE is
now ‘washed up’; finished.
He will NEVER regain the Trust he had before
his ObamaTRADE vote (the first) for Goldmann Sachs
who the Senator owes, and owes, and owes.
Jeb is coming on strong!!!
Pretty accurate analysis. Only two men on that stage worthy of consideration.
And the question about Nikki’s response to the SOTU address, clearly intended to ambush Trump, didn’t go well either. His response, in which he said, “I am angry” and he took ownership of his anger, clearly resonated with the American public. There’s no doubt in my mind that Nikki’s handlers expected him to lambaste her.
Unhinged? WTF? You can trust Trump, record and all, but Cruz is no better than Obama?
It sounds like DU around here sometimes.
Trump handled the Haley situation beautifully. It seems he's evolved away from direct personal attacks on women.
His “I am angry!” seemed like it came from every fiber in his body...it was as brilliant a moment as has ever been given in a primary or presidential debate.
It was original, spontaneous and heartfelt. It was effective as Reagan’s “I paid for this mic” moment.
thank you Nikki for being the latest Rino to do a smackdown on the American people rather than what she was supposed to do, smackdown the lame Obama SOTU.
BUMP to your post. That was pretty clear to me. It was one of multiple moments (different candidates) I cheered at my television.
Nice predictions...you must have won Powerball, too, eh?
on the New York issue, I doubt many people are actually bothered by that comment. Well, unless your from New York.
Always the contrarian, I must disagree with the statement that Cruz made a mistake in his “New York values” statement.
I think it is more likely a brilliant, pre-meditated and excellent tactical thrust. Not without risk certainly - but more likely to help Cruz than hurt him in the big picture.
Why?
1. Most of America will agree with his statement - at least a huge percentage - far more than those who will be upset with it;
2. Neither the city nor the state of New York is going to vote for Cruz anyway........so their inevitable negative reaction to his statement loses nothing.
The bottom line is the statement is likely to do him more good in both getting the nomination and the general election than it will do bad.
Love to hear other Freepers thoughts on my thoughts.........
What is your source for those numbers?
I agree. New York is the state that brought us Senator Hillary.
crappola.
I agree, but the news media is editing out the lead in to that comment which described what he was referring to in the opening, gay rights, pro abortion, wall street... It sounds worse without the preface.
his imagination, and he’s spamming threads too
