With less than three weeks of open enrollment left, Covered California is working to highlight increased penalties for not having health insurance this year.
Since its individual coverage requirement took effect in 2014, Obamacare has doled out increasingly expensive fines to people who do not purchase coverage through health exchanges or obtain insurance from an employer or a government program such as Medicare. This year brings the highest penalty yet, Peter Lee, Covered California's executive director, said during a news conference Wednesday.
"This is real money going straight to the IRS, where the consumer gets nothing in return," Lee said.

Hussein will be in his Dubai mansion by then.
Please. Let’s give credit where credit is due through correct labeling.
It’s ObamunistCare.
So what are they doing with that $1.5 billion dollars?
If you choose to pay a fine instead of getting insurance and you have to go to the hospital, I’m assuming you don’t have the money to pay your hospital bill. Shouldn’t this money the IRS is collecting go to those hospitals so they don’t have to raise prices to everyone else to recoup the loss?
Ever increasing fines on those who can’t afford insurance. Everything Obama does and says is a lie.
This is the tax on buying nothing that Justice Roberts said was legal.
forced fees on taxpayer that bypass big insurance and go directly to big healthcare.
more leftist cronyism
That’s right. Beat them into submission.
Kinda reminds me of Mao’s great leap forward.
“This is real money going straight to the IRS, where the consumer gets nothing in return,”
Sorta like the rest of our taxes.
The penalty is STILL cheaper than zerocare, for a lot of folks.
Guess what? Most people are getting nothing in return when they have $6K - $10K deductibles on top of premiums that have doubled.
It's cheaper to pay the fine and pay cash for that once or twice a year visit to the doctor you have decided to keep.
“It could really be 2018 until you start seeing a real surge in enrollment because of the penalties,” Cox said.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
And this is hopenchange progress?
Eff Obama and his Pussein movement withh extreme prejudice.
If you want to keep your president, you can keep your president.
I will never enroll and will become an expat rather than do so.
That fine should cover just the NEW people they threw into Medicare over the last two years for all of a week.

robbery of the tax refund Americans are to receive, and thats all this is!
“This is real money going straight to the IRS, where the consumer gets nothing in return”
That means there are a lot of dumb people whom need to adjust their W4 so that the IRS doesn’t owe them money at the end of the year. Or was that loophole fixed?
Unfortunately, the $1.5B is probably a drop in the bucket compared to the subsidies handed out and healthcare bailouts provided.
Even with subsidies available, people in the 250% to 400% federal poverty range haven’t been signing up on exchanges. People that live in the high cost coastal areas of California with that FPL range simply don’t have the money. The higher penalties may scare some folks into signing up, but I doubt they remain enrolled for long.
I like it. Perfect.
But I thought Roberts said this wasn’t a fine but a tax? Damn I guess it’s not a tax after all :-)
Another $1.5 billion extorted out of the pockets of the earners and used to finance Dumbo-bama’s socialist, wealth redistribution utopia instead of strengthening the economy.
And let’s not forget that a big chunk of that wealth redistribution goes to Queen Mocchie to maintain her Queenly lifestyle, her bloated staff, and to pay for her multi-million dollar vacations.
Buried in your post is the solution to all of this. Write into law that healthcare providers do not have to treat people who cannot pay, drop the law forcing people to buy health insurance.
