There is a growing sense among political pundits, especially of the establishment class, that only Ted Cruz has a reasonable shot at stopping Donald Trump. Jeb Bush has already achieved terminal velocity, Christie and Kasich have been unable to break the top 3 in New Hampshire, and Fiorina has been demoted from the debate main stage. Rubio, who was their 6th or 7th choice, has yet to achieve the same kind of liftoff that Cruz has, and he doesnât have an obvious strategic path to victory like Cruz does.
When faced with a choice between Trump and Cruz, the establishment chooses Trump. The first evidence of this was when Reince Priebus steadfastly refused to admit what even Debbie Wasserman Schultz admits, that Ted Cruz is eligible to run for President. The way the rest of the establishment, including John McCain, have failed to defend Cruz on the completely meritless birther issue shows that they are wholly willing to throw Cruz to the wolves and take their chances with Trump.
Further, the two most genuinely establishment pundits on the right â Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter â have been in the tank for Trump since basically day one. As much as Ingraham regularly blasts the establishment on her twitter, and the insulated thinking of the âNew York-Washington corridor,â she has basically the most establishment pedigree humanly possible. Ingraham was born and raised in Connecticut. She went to Ivy league undergrad and Virginia law. The only non-political job she has ever had was working as a big law associate in Manhattan. She has worked in and around the beltway for her entire adult life, much of which has been spent earning a very comfortable salary as a classically establishment journalist. Nothing says âestablishmentâ like being a regular fill in for Bill OâReillyâs makeup.
Coulter, likewise,

Look Trump may be politically incorrect, etc. I believe conservatives of all stripes would be much happier under Cruz because he would attempt to keep his word (as far as the Constitution would allow him, as well as political realities in Congress), Trump (not saying anything bad about the guy personally) IS A DEAL MAKER-As in a deal maker with the Establishment when it comes down to it, and by that I mean I don't believe we would be happy with the deals he would make. Just my personal opinion..
What’s ironic is that Red State is itself an establishment outlet, a member of the Salem Media group.
Wolfy is trying to trick his readers with his reverse psychology.
Looks like this Redstate clown missed “Nikki’s” speech last night.
Nikki Haley must not have gotten the message; she attacked Trump in her Obama “response”. This may be good news; if Trump is nominated, he won’t want Haley for V.P., for which she is supposedly an active “candidate”.
Redstate, when Elite, rino propaganda, is how you want to start your day.
Or perhaps they don’t want either of them or the ability to stop them.
Pray America wakes
Laura Ingraham establishment?? Yeah right
Of course they do....Trump is more liberal than Cruz hence preferable to the establshment.
“Whatâs ironic is that Red State is itself an establishment outlet, a member of the Salem Media group.”
LMAO
Psychology 101
It’s called “
projection” I think
The “Establishment” sent that Carolina political stooge out there last night to Trash Trump.
Reverse psychology, eh?
I was going to say, Red State is establishment. They echo the same attack lines on Trump as mainstream media including their tacky reverse psychology.
Both Trump and Cruz have establishment ties. Trump’s donations. Cruz’s wife works for Goldman/Sachs - Rahm Emanuel’s old bosses who give to the Uniparty tons of money.
Can anyone verify Cruz’s connection to CFR? I’ve heard it mentioned.
But this article is bunk. The GOPe hate Trump and Cruz equally.
Red State hates Trump so they aren’t choosing Trump and they are the establishment.
This is hilarious. Having been defeated in all other attempts to beat Trump, their last gasp attempt is to paint HIM as the establishment candidate. Lol.
Trump is the less of two evils for the GOPe.
They absolutely believe the can manage him best and he has no core driving conservative principles.
This so manifestly wrong after Haley last night. And the nonsense about deal making is also baloney. Cruz has no money and no business experience. He will be led around by the nose by advisors and donors on economic matters.
The GOPe is definitely going with Trump over Cruz.
It tells us something about who they fear the most.
Cruz did it within the established political structure, which is not supposed to happen.
Still, I think they are making a mistake in thinking Trump can be co-opted.
Shouldn’t Eric be wondering about Debbie as much as Priebus?
“The first evidence of this was when Reince Priebus steadfastly refused to admit what even Debbie Wasserman Schultz admits, that Ted Cruz is eligible to run for President
Wasserman/Schultz finding of NBC, she takes it back by saying it's in the 14th amendment, which only has "born in the US" or "naturalized" as options.
