Donald Trump talks at a fourth-grade level. Maybe that’s why the Fox News audience loves him
Salon ^ | 1/10/2016 | Phil Torres

It's a cliche to say that democratic states can't function properly without an informed electorate. But it’s absolutely true. And this is why, heading into the 2016 election year, I'm nervous about the future. With Donald Trump leading the Republican presidential contenders, even many Republican die-hards are shaking in their boots.

But Trump isn't the cause, just the symptom. The deeper cause is a strain of anti-intellectualism that runs through the roots of American culture. And while this strain is found on both sides of the political spectrum (see some liberals on vaccines and chemtrails), it's mostly concentrated among religious conservatives on the political right. For those who espouse anti-intellectualism, conspiracy theories have the same clout as legitimate science, the opinions of non-experts are just as credible as those of the experts, and ideology takes precedence over the cold hard facts.

Leftists love to denigrate the intelligence of Republicans.

Meanwhile, their key base of support are people who are mostly illiterate drop-outs.

It’s not how Trumps states his position, its what his position IS that counts. The average person doesn’t need flowery language or legal speak to understand the spoken word. Trump is covering all the bases when he speaks and Mr. “high and mighty” Florres obviously fails to see that.

You said...
“Phil Torres looks and sounds like a metrosexual pouf. Maybe that’s why Salon employs him.

Poster boy for liberal elitism. Becoming more and more unhinged as Trump’s staying-power is evident.”

Why do all the men on the left seem to have that “’Jama Boy”

look?

Don’t you just love the schoolyard bully tactics of the progressives when they are confronted by someone they know they can’t beat so all they can do is trash talk.

A professional writer, especially a technical writer, knows perfectly well how important it is to use minimum vocabulary for maximum audience. If the author doesn’t know this he’s not very good at his craft.

How about saying it straight and to the point. These pansies and whack jobs can’t handle the truth and try to sound the most educated in the room.

...anti-intellectualism [is] mostly concentrated among religious conservatives on the political right.

You pompous ass. Let's see some real hard data to support this. I wonder what the average schooling level is for Democrats versus Republicans. Just looking at the demographics, one sees that Obama wins the city cores in most places, which probably is not an intellectual hotbed. I would say anti-intellectualism is concentrated in the Democrat party. Indeed, some of them couldn't even breathe without a gov't subsidy.
