Rand Paul: "Extraordinary" to have a president born outside the U.S.

Weighing on the controversy over whether Canadian-born Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz is eligible to be president, his fellow senator Rand Paul said Sunday that it would be "extraordinary" to have a president born outside of the U.S.

"He would be the first president not born in the United States. And so that alone would be extraordinary. And so people have to decide for their own minds whether it makes a difference where someone is born," he said on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday.

...

Paul predicted Sunday that Democrats would challenge Cruz's eligibility and that it would ultimately have to be decided by the Supreme Court.

"It's hasn't been decided," he said.

...

he predicted he will do well on caucus day, pointing to the fact that his campaign just announced 1,000 precinct chairs for the caucus.

"We think we may well be the most organized campaign in Iowa. And that's somewhat unheralded if you watch the polls," Paul said. "But really a caucus is about turning your people out. It's calling them, getting them out."

ROFL I know it’s technically Monday where I am, but I am going to pretend that it’s still Sunday. Vaya con Dios. I’ll be along in a little bit.

Why Democrats have the guts to challenge Cruz but no Republicans are willing to challenge Obama birth certificate and take it to court

Exactly. We screamed for years about Obama and the Republican leadership did squat. Wouldn't and didn't want to touch it.

You can bet though that Democrats will have no qualms about going after Cruz on this every chance they get. They'll use the courts and the press will report on it ad nauseum.

There's no way that this can or will be resolved until it's in the courts. Cruz needs to get out in front of this, handle it and take it off the table.

Because the Democrats are The Media, and The Media are the Democrats.

"I wonder if the children of Queen Noor of Jordon would be considered natural born citizens and able to run for President?"

Does their situation differ from Ted's?

“It is extraordinary that Barry Obama was given eligibility.”

Why should this be extraordinary? This is the District of Criminals were talking about that gave him eligibility.

Yes, it is the District of Criminals. The question was asked rhetorically. The feed trough is too good to not live like pigs.

I was reading about Republican (1881-1885) President Chester Alan Arthur. There were claims, which he denied, that he was born in Canada. Since his mom was an American
citizen, people argued back then that it did not matter whether he was born in Canada or not. They were convinced that he was eligible to become POTUS. His father was also
a preacher. I just found that interesting.

Not really, except for the fact that they are Princes. They would have to come back to the US though and try to handle hanging around this forlorn country for fourteen years or so before running for President.

The Princes are as natural born as Sen. Cruz.

OK, trick question: Who was the first President who WAS born in the USA? Hint; it wasn’t Washington by a long shot.

I thought we settled this with George Romney and his jack Mormon parents in Mexico. But by all means have fun, Lord knows the GOP needs help looking like a jackass Party.

Eight of the first nine Presidents of the United States were not born in the United States. Because they were born when it didn’t yet exist. Martin Van Buren was the first POTUS elected who also was born after the American Revolution. His successor, William Henry Harrison, was a throwback born in 1773. They only broke even on native born/non-native born (8/8) at Lincoln.

So I have no clue what Rand Paul is babbling about (which so often seems to be the case).

It would be pretty ridiculous for this to become a big issue after the entire media establishment looked the other way on the multitude of problems with the current president’s background.

If you’ve ever been to Calgary where Ted Cruz was born, it is about as different from most of America as North Dakota is different from South Dakota.

Yet Obama, who may well have had Kenyan ancestry, whose religious and cultural affiliations are questionable, who hid his radical associations and his drug use, and who had giant holes in his academic records, attracted no interest from these super-sleuths.

It’s ridiculous. If you ever meet a Canadian-born person who chooses to live in the U.S. and not in Canada, you can be pretty certain that said person is a very loyal and enthusiastic American because if they weren’t, they would be in Canada.
