Donald Trump is taking aim at Republican presidential rival Sen. Ted Cruz, a tactical shift that could be risky on two fronts: It may have come too late, and the Texas senator might actually be benefiting from the attacks......
For Mr. Cruz, being under attack by other Republicans is a badge of honor, another backer said. "It's a quasi-endorsement of Cruz to the grass roots," said Saul Anuzis, former Michigan GOP chairman.
Polls show a growing number of Trump backers see Mr. Cruz as their second choice. Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler said that when the campaign began, polls showed that only 4% of Trump backers saw his boss as their second choice. A new poll by NBC/SurveyMonkey finds that number has risen to 39%.
The latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found that 66% of Trump voters said they would consider supporting Mr. Cruz -- far more than other major candidates....

The fact that his odious practice has gone on for a long time does not serve to make it less odious. I have seen first hand the human and commercial wreckage this misuse of eminent domain can cause.
If you want to see the continuing wreckage of past misguided efforts to use eminent domain to “fix” blighted neighborhoods go to East St. Louis, the Cedars neighborhood in Dallas, or Webster Street in Alameda, or hundreds of other places across the nation where war has been declared on entire neighborhoods in the name of urban renewal.
What amazes me in this election season is how many likely otherwise reasonable people have been driven to passionate attempts to justify the unjustifiable rather than just admit that their chosen prince is flawed.
Don’t misunderstand: there are legitimate purposes for eminent domain. But enriching one private citizen at the expense of another cannot be one of them.
And if you claim it is, then you shame yourself.
Oh then let me bow to your superior conservativeness! Not. It’s worse than the libs yelling racist!
... Iâm glad to hear that none of you Cruz supporters use anything that was built or created using eminent domain.
I think that is a great moral stand and I respect it.
I respect your right to believe that eminent domain was NOT used by DT to simply screw others and make money though clearly it was. Not the same as government taking to build roads.
This is the most gratuitous misrepresentation of that particular confrontation that you could possibly write. What Ted Cruz told this young woman is that he would indeed see that she was deported according to the law. What he said he would do is enforce the law. As the President is sworn to do.
Why do you feel it necessary to lie to support your guy? It’s disgusting and it’s ineffective.
I decided to research Trump’s business failures and most of the top 10 are laughable. As for the shuttle, seems he needs to learn his market. He has his own ideas of what something should be but in real life, not the billionaire life, where things just aren’t required.
” A lack of increased interest from customers (who favored the airline for its convenience not its fancy new look) combined with high preâGulf War fuel prices meant the shuttle never turned a profit. The high debt forced Trump to default on his loans, and ownership of the company was turned over to creditors. The Trump Shuttle ceased to exist in 1992 when it was merged into a new corporation, Shuttle Inc. No word on whether the gold-plated faucets survived the merger.”
He is a top competitor. I wonder how many bankers will vote for him.
The thing is, Cruz is a solid conservative and has been for his entire career. The man has taken numerous conservative causes to the USSC, and won...
He is not a closet liberal.
Trump on the other hand, recently found Jesus when it comes to his conservatism, which may be real, but it also may not be. We have no way of knowing for sure as his record is really quite the opposite... Financially backing RATs... When he has spoken up before this recent conversion his policies come across as liberal/socialist/nationalist.
If the choice was him vs Romney, I could see taking a chance on him. When it’s him vs Cruz, a proven rock solid conservative, then there is NO chance I would even be attracted to that risk. Why even bother with Trump? His negatives far outweigh any positives he might possibly bring, if indeed his conversion is in fact real... And political repositioning like is common around election season...
Any one under 10% needs to bow out. Most Conservatives have made up their minds, and it Cruz and Trump. Dr. Carson would make a great HHS head. Just as I think Lt. Col. Allen West would be a great Sec of Defense.
“Why do you feel it necessary to lie to support your guy?”
Cruz said that our “immigration system is broken” and when I quote him I am lying? You Cruz supporters are nuts.
Dude you don’t care about facts, just like your hero. Further we have never had a vote in eminent domain. Are you just trying to play us?
I don’t see Cruz as true conservative based on his track record and his wife who works for Goldman. I would vote for him over a Democrat.
Also at 41 years old, his “entire career” means squat. He’s a junior senator, not Reagan!
Do you ever actually address other posters comments or are you here to be the Greek chorus in this tragicomedy that is the 2016 presidential campaign?
They know this.
The problem is their guy Trump has zero problem sticking it to the little guy to line the pockets of his buddies by using the government to enforce such wealth transfer.
It’s one thing for a public road owned by the public after the transaction is complete. It’s completely different when it’s a greedy businessman doing it to avoid paying more than he is wanting for the land...
Must be nice to back a candidate who has no problem, and whom actually supports government sponsored theft of ones land, as long as it’s for the good of a pious land developer and the community as a whole.
I know if a country back in the 30s which took private land gave it to another private individual for the good of the public as well... Didn’t work out so well in the end though...
I miss C. Edmond Wright. Glad I can still read him elsewhere.
Don’t forget me. I want to be the #1 anti Trump poster.
This is probably the week DT gets taken down, in the debate on 1/14. If his mouth doesn’t take him out Ted will.
You’re the one voting for Hillary!
He has a LONG track record defending conservative principles, he entered the Senate recently (about the time your guy switched parties...) and continued adding to that track record...
Let’s compare track records, Crus will easily win that argument...
You are not even close to number 1!
When the going got tough, Cruz caved to Obama!
Then you need to step up the nasty personal attacks. I have a feeling that's what got Mr. Wright the zot.
In what way...?
