New York Attorney General Eric Schniederman is suing Donald Trump and his real estate "university" for defrauding more than 5,000 people of $40 million. "Mr. Trump used his celebrity status and personally appeared in commercials making false promises to convince people to spend tens of thousands of dollars they couldn't afford for lessons they never got," Schniederman says in a release. "No one, no matter how rich or popular they are, has a right to scam hard working New Yorkers. Anyone who does should expect to be held accountable."

Appears to be a class action suit now. Just like Willie Sutton robbing banks - “because that is where the money is”.
*******************************************************************************
Well, apparently there’s lots of money to be made misleading folks on what they will get as they hand over thousands of their dollars.

Class action attorneys will get most of the settlement as usual. That is the main reason they do class action lawsuits. Do you think they really care if there was fraud or not?

Read the article about the original lawsuit. The prosecutors couldn’t bring viable claims of fraud. http://observer.com/2014/10/time-runs-out-on-attorney-generals-fraud-suit/

Does anyone know how Cruz’s two year campaign to pass his H-1B visa amendment to massively increase the broken program turned out? Oh yeah, he withdrew it because he is running for POTUS. I never realized a huge increase in the American job killing H-1B visas system was a “true conservative” position.

http://zhlaw.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Order-re-Summary-Judgment-Dkt-423.pdf

Based on the foregoing evidence, the Court concludes that Plaintiffs have raised
a genuine dispute of material fact as to whether Plaintiff Brown was exposed to core
misrepresentations made by Mr. Trump, and whether a “reasonable consumer” could
have been misled. For instance, Brown testified that he watched a promotional video
in which Mr. Trump said that he had “handpicked” the mentors and instructors, that
they were “professors,” and that TU was akin to “the Wharton School of Business.”
Further, as discussed above, there is evidence that the core misrepresentations occurred
in TU advertisements featuring and approved by Mr. Trump.
Accordingly, the Court DENIES Defendant Mr. Trump’s motion for summary
judgment on Plaintiffs’ claim under New York General Business Law § 349(a).
In sum, the Court GRANTS Defendant Donald Trump’s motion for summary
judgment regarding Plaintiffs’ claims for injunctive relief under the UCL, FAL, and
- CLRA, but DENIES Defendant Donald Trump’s motion for summary judgment in all
other respects.
CONCLUSION AND ORDER
For the foregoing reasons, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that:
(1) the Court GRANTS IN PART and DENIES IN PART Defendant
Donald Trump’s Motion for Summary Judgment or, In the Alternative,
Partial Judgment (ECF No. 375);
(2) the Court GRANTS IN PART and DENIES IN PART Defendant Trump
University’s Motion for Summary Judgment or, In the Alternative, Partial
Judgment (ECF No. 377);
(3) the Court GRANTS summary judgment as to Plaintiffs’ claims for
injunctive relief under the UCL, FAL, and CLRA;
(4) the Court DENIES summary judgment as to all other claims.
IT IS SO ORDERED.
DATED: November 18, 2015
HON. GONZALO P. CURIEL
United States District Judge

I am a Trump supporter that has always believed the motivational speaking industry was fraudulent through and through. That and similar to Trump U.

However, when I brought it up to a table full of Sales guys, they laughed at me and said I didn't know what I was talking about.

Generally, sales guys are as superstitious as baseball players and are convinced their frame of mind and emotional state are ESSENTIAL tools of success.

A weird lot. But I guess there is a legitimate market for this bilge.

How about the millions of students who went to college and have $100,000 in student loans. Wasn’t their schooling all about making money??

So, what you’re saying is that trump will again get off because he has prosecutors and judges in his back pocket. At least he’s dealing with honest politicians. Once they’re bought, they stay bought. trump must pay his politicians well. Too bad he’s not as considerate of his illegals.

Thanks for the information and link. This is very serious and casts doubt on the character of Mr. Trump and his feelings for the “little people”.

Trump will win because the lawsuit is a lame class action intended to enrich lawyers. Why would you defend blood sucking thievery by class action attorney scumbags?

Could you have the moderator change the thread title so we all know this is a Trump bashing thread? It would save a lot of time.

Why would you defend consumer fraud?

I have read some comments from grads who said it was beneficial and they put a couple grand in the school. But the issue would be calling the school a 'university' and promising a 'Wharton School' education.

I would have to watch the advertisement myself to see if a 'Wharton' education was promised. I really doubt it. More than likely Trump touted his creds and said that he was hand-picking professors to pass on his knowledge to the students.

It’s not such a thread at all. It’s a well-meaning thread discussing an issue that we MUST get resolved and “air out” now since Hillary and the ‘RATS will sure bring it up in the general election.

If you pay a lot of money to learn something, and then don’t follow the rules you learned, you can’t expect to succeed.
