SIOUX CENTER - During a bus tour stop in Sioux Center, Iowa last night, Senator Ted Cruz expressed support for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) through 2022.

Responding to a question from an ethanol investor from Iowa about whether he would allow the landmark energy program to continue through its current expiration in 2022, Sen. Cruz responded by expressing support for the RFS through 2022.

Senator Cruz also expressed passionate support for breaking through the so-called "blendwall." That "blendwall" makes it illegal for ethanol to expand its market penetration, and I intend to eliminate the EPA blendwall to get rid of that barrier, which will enable ethanol to expand in the marketplace to a much larger penetration to sell more ethanol…."

The comments were substantially repeated at another stop in Cherokee, Iowa the same evening. You can listen to audio of the remarks here. and below.

Very Disturbing!

If the Corn-Lobby can sway Cruz, who will be next?

You can not have the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) through 2022 without billions in taxpayer subsidies that Cruz says he is against.

Trump was Trumpeting his love of corn subsidies a weak ago.

And as usual, Cruz is sitting on Trump's coattails yelling "Me TOO".

I would like to read his actual words, and not the interpretation of a RFS supporter.

He's got more waffles than a Waffle House

For it to be a waffle he has to change his position, you know like Trump!

Phasing out a subsidy is considering flip-flopping. It’s best to avoid forming an opinion of Cruz based on misinformation from Trumpbots.

It isn’t and shame on FR mods for for allowing this “spin” to make it into “breaking news”.

I don’t mind legitimate criticism of Cruz, he is not perfect and has bonafide drwawbacks. But this kinf of crap is unworthy a a true conservative forum.

I like Cruz less and less. At this point I find him barely acceptable.

Good heavens! What's your problem? Cruz successfully stood against renewal of the ethanol subsidy. And now he is standing against renewal of the Renewable Fuel Mandate.

Given that millions were invested and thousands employed in the governmentally created ethanol industry, it's only fair that the industry be given an opportunity to wind down and, perhaps, find other markets before the Mandate is allowed to expire.

Phase out. 2022. He didn’t say he would keep subsidies, he said he would phase them out. This is a detail. You can argue that they should be phased out sooner, but you can’t argue that he’s a flip-flopper.

His site does not say after 2022.

Cruz is a Constitutionalist. He has the Constitution memorized. He knows it backward and forward, Nobody doubts this. Cruz knows that as President he doesn't have the authority to unilaterally do away with a law that Congress has passed and a President has signed. Cruz knows that the law extends to 22. He is saying he will let it expire and would veto any new law.

I know Trumpers think everthing Donnie says will immediately come to pass when he becomes President but there will be a rude awakening.

Yea he should have just come out and said “Sorry Conservatives. I love ya but...” and everyone would then love him.

Oh wait. Someone beat him to it.

"This is NOT a FLIP-FLOP!"

Doesn't matter if it is, or isn't.

It will look that way to millions, as the minutia to explain the difference goes beyond a one sentence statement.

It's even sufficiently plausible enough to make the accusation in an ad.

Weasely lawyer words. He claimed he was against them. His supporters claim he was against ethanol subsidies and talked smack about others who didn’t bother straddling the Iowa fence.

He's got more waffles than a Waffle House lately. Ted’s been an official US "Senate Club Member" for a few years, he's no dummy. He thinks we are though.

If Cruz did think that about you, he would be right.

Ted has for many months said that he is for a five year phase out and repeal.

At least Trump has consistently supported it. < /s>
