SIOUX CENTER - During a bus tour stop in Sioux Center, Iowa last night, Senator Ted Cruz expressed support for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) through 2022.
Responding to a question from an ethanol investor from Iowa about whether he would allow the landmark energy program to continue through its current expiration in 2022, Sen. Cruz responded by expressing support for the RFS through 2022.
Senator Cruz also expressed passionate support for breaking through the so-called "blendwall." That "blendwall" makes it illegal for ethanol to expand its market penetration, and I intend to eliminate the EPA blendwall to get rid of that barrier, which will enable ethanol to expand in the marketplace to a much larger penetration to sell more ethanolâ¦."
The comments were substantially repeated at another stop in Cherokee, Iowa the same evening. You can listen to audio of the remarks here. and below.

Miltie,
Cruz has long indicated that he will allow the program to expire while Trump actively supports its continuation. Ironic that Trump supporters say that this proves Cruz is not a 100% conservative (maybe just 85% in this case) while Trump position would put him at 0% conservative.
It’s been a long time since we’ve had a conservative of this pedigree get this close to the nomination. If your goal is a conservative president, Cruz is by far the best option. Trump is not and has never been a conservative. He is a populist who will be ultra conservative on some issues and ultra liberal on others, depending on who his advisors are (or which way the wind is blowing).
I remember you now. Patience please. Reagan rarely got everything he wanted. He sometimes had to move the ball down the field in smaller increments than we wanted, but the ball did move in the right direction.
In this case there was a valid public release from an ethanol official and surly that deserved some scrutiny and some response. Again:
ARF state director Eric Branstad said: Farmers and rural communities across Iowa are going to be encouraged by Sen. Cruz's remarks. He is clearly listening to the people of Iowa and understands the importance of the Renewable Fuel Standard to America's economy and energy independence, as he started the caucus process calling for immediate repeal. While not perfect, this is a big step forward by Sen. Cruz.
If true, pray tell me that isn't a flip flop. Or show me a retraction. Or tell me the guy is a flat out liar. But don't tell me it isn't post-worthy.
Cruz's own web site says he just flip-flopped....He said he would 'eliminate' the Renewable Fuel Standards (#19)

2. TWENTY-FIVE FEDERAL ABCs
The rate at which we are spending is unsustainable. And federal programs often fail to support their purported beneficiaries while instead propping up special interests. There are far too many members of Congress who willingly hand out special favors to select industries and friends.
Letâs break the Washington Cartel and restore power to the people. Letâs stop handing over billions to federal favorites. We will sharply reduce the alphabet soup of government entities, beginning with the âABCâs that should not exist in the first place: The Agencies, Bureaus, Commissions, and other programs that are constitutionally illegitimate and harmful to American households and businesses. The following 25 ABCs are emblematic of the types of government functions I will examine, downsize, and reform to limit federal overreach. But these are just a start.
Eliminate the following Agencies, Bureaus, Commissions, and programs:
1. Appalachian Regional Commission
2. Climate Ready Water Utilities Initiative
3. Climate Research Funding for the Office of Research and Development
4. Climate Resilience Evaluation Awareness Tool
5. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
6. Corporation for Public Broadcasting (privatize)
7. Corporation for Travel Promotion
8. Global Methane Initiative
9. Green Infrastructure Program
10. Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program
11. Legal Services Corporation
12. National Endowment for the Arts
13. National Endowment for the Humanities
14. New Starts Transit Program
15. Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund
16. Presidential Election Campaign Fund
17. Regulation of CO2 Emissions from Power Plants and all Sources
18. Regulation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Vehicles
19. Renewable Fuel Standard Federal Mandates
20. Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation
21. Sugar Subsidies
22. Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery
23. UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
24. UN Population Fund
Wrong. He flip-flopped. His own web site says he is to eliminate the Renewable Fuel Standards (#19). He just went back on that promise.

WRONG! He has actually filed legislation to eliminate the Renewable Fuel Standard, phasing it out over a period of 5 years. He filed that legislation BEFORE he was running for President, so his position now is the same as it was before. So he has already taken steps to fulfill that promise, even before he was a candidate. So no flip-flop, sorry.

Yep, just what I thought. You have no idea if it is true and you won't post a source.
Flip-flops did not work out great for Romney. Why is Cruz following that road? He flipped on path to legal status to illegals, and now on corn subsidies. I guess both issues do not affect the constitution. Therefore Cruz has the right to flip on those?
You are sad. So eliminating it over a period of 5 years is not eliminating it?
Funny, he doesn't mention that part on his web site.
He doesn't mention how long it will take to wind down any of those programs. Are you so ignorant or naive that you think a president can just wave a magic wand and make all of those things vanish on the first day in office?
Oops, you are a Trump supporter, which means you really are that naive...
A 5 year plan, is 5 years too long. It's 5 years this country doesn't have.
But, if you are okay with someone who takes 5 years to accomplish something, you go right ahead and vote for that stupidity.
Trump can get the job done quicker.
Trump has his own female staff member who does the same . Don’t play that msm, rino game. It is unbecoming of such a believer in the cult of personality known as the Donald and his flock.
You are kidding, right? A right wing Obama is no better than a left wing Obama. Getting this “done” faster is not the goal, but getting things done, via the constitution, should be ALL FReepers goal. Let’s just give this all back to the English, if we want strong armed tactics and tyrants.
No games.
Just stated facts.
Maybe you’re the one playing games.
I stand exactly 100 percent by what I say. There is no flip flop, and the only way things get done otherwise is by a tyrannical style of leadership.
Can they really be trusted to end something in 5 years? Can they really be trusted that any reduction in the 5 year period isn't just juiced into any of the continuing resolutions or budgets?
Nope. Eliminate that crap just like Cruz outlines on his web site. Pushing the constitution out another 5 years is a joke.
Again , I will not waver, Obama left or Obama right does not work. Letting something die natural death, like this ethanol minuscule issue, is fine.
Cruz and Trump, have, and will, continue to say things we do not like, and AGAST! They will error. I will always, as far as the republic is concerned, stand with and uphold the constitution. These men are mortals. God first, then family, followed by the constitution, and the right to be wrong, and correct said wrong, are PARAMOUNT, or we are all just Obama “right”.
His targeting of evangelicals is dangerous as it paints him on the religious right which doesn't fair well unfortunately with the great unwashed heathens known as the general election voter.
If we ended up with him, great. I'm just not convinced he could get more done than Trump.
