Senator Ted Cruz listens to Iowa farmers, supports Renewable Fuel Standard (Ethanol) through 2022

SIOUX CENTER - During a bus tour stop in Sioux Center, Iowa last night, Senator Ted Cruz expressed support for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) through 2022.

Responding to a question from an ethanol investor from Iowa about whether he would allow the landmark energy program to continue through its current expiration in 2022, Sen. Cruz responded by expressing support for the RFS through 2022.

Senator Cruz also expressed passionate support for breaking through the so-called "blendwall." That "blendwall" makes it illegal for ethanol to expand its market penetration, and I intend to eliminate the EPA blendwall to get rid of that barrier, which will enable ethanol to expand in the marketplace to a much larger penetration to sell more ethanol…."

The comments were substantially repeated at another stop in Cherokee, Iowa the same evening. You can listen to audio of the remarks here. and below.

It's all B--link all you want. He's flip-flopped on Amnesty alone about 3 times that I can recall.

So now you change the subject (to something else you'll be wrong about).

Ya know there is only some much time I can devote to correct you low-info types.

FR is being overrun with all manner if idiocy. It shouldn’t be surprising, it’s just sad to see.

Cruz sponsored legislation to phase out ethanol subsidies and mandates in five years, last year before he announced his run for President. His position has not changed.

This is brilliant from Cruz - He needs to win Iowa and this stance gives him enough wiggle room one way or another.

Ted is deadly smart, he has Iowa in the bag now.

Cruz has to wear the "worse" label having perverted the passage by shoehorning it into a secular campaign. We are justified to exam the "fruits" when they call upon scripture for secular purposes and especially when those purposes turn out to both devious and hypocritical.

Cruz entered IA calling for immediate repeal (basis ARF state director Eric Branstad) and now Cruz is calling for letting it slide. First we put our armor on and now we take it off.

"Why people are surprised ??"

No one is. The Trumpsters know it isn't a flip but they lyingly want to pretend it is so they can screech. The Cruzers know it's been his position all along.

"Trump said he will build wall, Baby Cruz is towing same."

Cruz is towing a wall? Does he have it linked up to the back of his bus?

"Trump for corn farmers, now Baby cruz is towing same."

Wow, so he has a bunch of farmers tied down back there, too. I bet being dragged by that bus hurts.

Let me explain it to you so that you can understand.

Cruz say build wall in 2011. Cruz say build wall again in 2013. Trump copy Cruz in 2015. 2011 and 2013 come before 2015.

"Trump is not begging for Melina,"

What? Who is Melina and why would Trump beg for her?

" Now I want to see when Baby Cruz stop begging $5, $10 when Heidi is sick."

You no make sense. Words like foreigner off short bus. Your name Peggy?

Well read the article where he SAYS he wants to remove the blend wall to sell more ethanol.

Listen to the video. It sounds like he wants to remove government barriers on ethanol (what ever they are) and it sounds like he is saying that he wants ethanol to compete on its own in the free market place.

And of course we all know how that will go.

I don't hear any mention of the blend wall.

"You’re right. But there are lurkers out there who can google: Texas Tribune Cruz Perry ethanol

The article is from March and talks about his five-year phase out plan.

Cruz caught being consistent, once again."

You are exactly right.

“LOL...I was just quoting the linked article. Sounds like this director needs a phone call from Cruz, if he’s putting out incorrect info.”

Do you even know who you are quoting? It isn’t Cruz or anyone that works for him.

You are posting BS put out by the corn lobby.

While not in print, according to Branstad he has been going around to the caucus process calling for immediate repeal. Why would the man say otherwise since he is making a positive release for Cruz.

There is no change in Cruz' position here. Here is a screen shot of the bill Cruz cosponsored with Rep. Jim Bridenstine:

Jim, we don't want or need this kind of crap disinformation posting on FR. This is just like the California recall election with FairOpinion and crew posting such spam. I'm sick of it.

I read your excerpt - “I intend to eliminate the EPA blendwall to get rid of that barrier, which will enable ethanol to expand in the marketplace...”

So you are in favor of the government restricting what consumers might want to buy? I would like to buy readily available 100% gasoline but the government prevents that. While I doubt that there will be a clamor for 30% ethanol fuel from consumers - why should that be restricted by the government?

This is probably just Cruz being political. He supports getting rid of the mandate and subsidies (which will make a difference), and he also supports removing the barriers (which won’t make a difference, seeing as people are being forced to buy the crap anyhow.) But all of them get the government out of it.

So how will the RFS through 2022 be achieved?

The current standard is 10%. My guess would be that, if the RFS is scheduled to expire in 2022, there will be a gradual draw down -- e.g., from 10% to 8% to 6%, etc.

A “secular” campaign?

Why is it a “secular” campaign, and when did it become that? You must be one of those Trump supporters like the one who said to me, “Keep that crap for Sunday”.

What conclusion have you reached about Trump’s fruits? After all, he did get up on stage and wave a Bible around to show that he’s a Christian.

Have the corn subsidies already stopped and/or would ending the fuel mandate all of a sudden plunge the oil/gasoline market into chaos?

Be aware I wasn't referring to the oil/gasoline market. Instead, throwing the RFS mandate overboard overnight would create chaos in the ethanol industry -- among farmers, refiners, rail and trucking transportation, etc.

Millions have been invested in this governmentally-created industry and thousands are employed. Shutting down the industry and throwing thousands out of work overnight would not be a productive approach.

Not necessarily a flip flop, he has always stated that the ethanol makers should have a fair shot at the free market,
However the government is taking up policies that limit the growth of ethanol, while at the same time artificially propping the market up. Cruz has said that the government needs to stop doing so, and get out of picking winners and losers, that doesn’t mean that if there is a market for ethanol, it shouldn’t be made.
