Well Cruz won’t be the GOP nominee but its not because of his eligibility or lack thereof.

-- Cruz's mother was American at the time of birth making Ted American from my understanding. --

She was an American at the time of here birth - Cruz produced his mother's BC to demonstrate that.

Is her citizenship at the time Ted Cruz was born relevant at all?

I note that Cruz doesn’t say “My mother was a US citizen when I was born.” Instead he says she was born in the US, and she is now a US citizen. End of debate.

It gives the impression that he’s a slick attorney finding a weasel way around the question.
..................................................................................................................................

Hence why I have to side with Don Trump and say this is precarious. At the end of the day, it probably won’t matter as Cruz is way behind in the polls. But it may be an issue again in the VP selection.
*****************************************************************************
You are seriously afflicted with the disease called “Fuzzy Logic”, IMHO.

Does ANY of the following make sense?

####
I note that Trump doesn’t say “My mother did not retain her British citizenship when I was born.” Instead, he says nothing about his mother. End of debate.

Does that give the impression that he’s a slick developer finding a weasel way around any questions related to his family’s citizenship?
####

Of course it doesn’t! And it doesn’t make me say the question of possible divided loyalties by Trump is PRECARIOUS.

Perhaps mental illness in this case.

Are we to believe that this country’s finest legal scholar would throw millions of his own dollars at the wall in search of an office to which he was not entitled?

>>>So why should we be surprised when he turns on Cruz?<<<

No surprise! The Field poll from Kalifornia yesterday showed Cruz in the lead! Rut roh! Trump immediately hits Cruz! Trump also started hitting Carson (with the hammer, belt buckle, pathologic innuendo crap) when the polls were moving toward Carson....same Trump MO with Cruz now...throw some innuendo out there for the drive-bys and the low-info crowd....just stirring up some gossip for this reality TV show he’s starring in...Trump is the Kardhashian candidate!

You’ve chosen to obfuscate the issue by omitting that part of my comment about Obama at least claiming to have been born in the USA, a claim Cruz is not making nor can he make. I never said nor even made an oblique reference to Obama’s being born in Kenya.

IMO he could have been born in the Lincoln Bedroom and not be a NBC as both his parents were not US citizens, which is the strict interpretation of NBC. You are clinging to it all hinging on Cruz’s mother having been a U.S. citizen. Both points are arguable since our SCOTUS ducked when presented the question.

Since our currently sitting SCOTUS will not tackle the question, I would like to see an amendment passed that would either qualify the term beyond any ambiguity, or eliminate it from the Constitution altogether to end this line of argument that will continue so long as it remains ambiguous.

No, she would’ve been required to take that oath upon naturalization as a Canadian citizen. It wasn’t voluntary, and it’s not like they would’ve randomly administered the oath in different ways to different people. It doesn’t work like that.

The question of his mother's citizenship at the time of his birth seems key. If both his parents were (naturalized) Canadian citizens then it would certainly be true that by any reasonable interpretation of the phrase, Ted Cruz would be a natural born citizen of Canada.

Can someone be an NBC of two different countries?

Then the same holds true for Obama. Using that criteria Obama is a natural born citizen too. But lots of conservatives/republicans questioned Obama's eligibility.

Yes. The reason that came up is because the claim when Obama was nobody was that he was born in Kenya (that all changed when he ran for President). There's a brochure out there which shows the claim, along with comments from him when he was a nobody.

At the time of his birth (which, again, Obama stated was in Kenya when he was a nobody), his mother was not yet 19. The law at the time to confer Natural-Born status was that, if one parent was a U.S. Citizen and the other was not at the time of birth, the parent who was the U.S. Citizen had to have resided for 10 years in the United States, with five years of that once the parent has reached the age of 14. Little Barry was born three months before Stanly Dunham's 19th birthday, and if the Kenyan birth were true (again, promoted by Barry when he was a nobody), then he would not have met the requirement under the law at the time.

That's why there was all the controversy over those statements made in the past, and the (thoroughly debunked) copy of the Hawaiian birth certificate provided by little Barry.

Ted Cruz's mother met those requirements when he was born (she was in her 30s at the time of his birth). She was an American Citizen by birth, she lived in the United States for at least 10 years, and 5 of those years were after the age of 14.

He hasn’t produced his mother’s birth certificate and in any even it would be irrelevant as to the question of whether she had renounced her citizenship and became a citizen of Canada at the time of his birth.

He said that they all have to go back. That he will build a wall. That the "good ones" can come back. Coming back, with a wall in place and real border security, would require a new law relating to formerly illegal immigrants and which ones can come back. That is not going to result in a mass return of unskilled labor. Nor will it allow them to become citizens. Whatever is enacted, if anything, will have to go through Congress and be signed by the President. Or they don't return at all, and existing law continues to be operative.

In any event, you misrepresented, and continue to misrepresent, what he said. We get it. You love Cruz. Go vote for him and let's see what happens. Stop making false statements.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that he’s a natural born citizen of Canada so your question is quite relevant.

Not in the meaning of Vattel or of the founders of the united States.

Cruz was born in Canada, and had two Canadian parents. He did not afaik even travel to the US until he was four years old.

His first allegiance is to Canada.

He may - I emphasize “may” - be a citizen of the United States, but sadly will never be a “Natural Born Citizen”.

He could put much of this to rest by consenting to the release of his INS file.

Canada actually did allow dual citizenship in some cases. The Canadian Citizenship act of 1946 did not require migrants to prove that they had renounced the citizenship of their former country.

Well...duh! Of course I’m “clinging” to that fact because Ted Cruz’ mother actually WAS and IS a US citizen. You’re not entitled to your own facts that are different from the facts in THIS UNIVERSE —unless you’re a ‘RAT or an anti-Cruz jihadist, of course.

Don’t be childish.

Cruz is the only GOP candidate that has the stuff to win.

As his strength builds in CA, his lock on the nomination builds with it.
