Honduras Calls on US to Respect Migrants as Hundreds Deported

Honduras called on the U.S. to exercise “respect and consideration” when dealing with undocumented Honduran migrants Tuesday, announcing that the government is preparing to receive deported migrants, including children, over the coming days.

President Juan Orlando Hernandez stressed that Hondurans travelling to the U.S. in search of work “give back to the economy” while they live there, calling on immigration authorities to respect Hondurans’ rights.

Local authorities are expecting the wave of returnees to continue over the coming days, including 16 mothers and 21 minors set to be deported back to Honduras Wednesday.

The deportations come as part of a broad crackdown on undocumented Central American migrants in the U.S., with thousands of families and unaccompanied minors without legal immigration status soon expected to be deported.

Honduran authorities said migration should be seen as a human right and not a crime, but emphasized their respect for the U.S.’s immigration policy.

Historically one of the poorest countries in Latin America, Honduras increasingly relies on remittance income. In 2015, Honduran expats, the majority of whom are the 1.2 million documented and undocumented Hondurans living in the U.S., sent about US$3.8 billion in remittances home to Honduras, a 10 percent increase from remittances in 2014.

In 2015, a total of 70,000 undocumented Hondurans were deported from the U.S. and Mexico.

including 16 mothers and 21 minors

****************************************************

Does not even rise to the level of “a drop in the bucket”. Deporting 37 illegals, should be 37 Million.

Maybe if the governments of these countries weren’t so corrupt, businesses would invest in them and give people jobs and incentives to stay home.

Don’t worry, Honduras. When the next administration takes over your children will be respectfully deported.

The Honduran government does not care about who respects their "migrants". Just FOLLOW THE MONEY.

We can respect their ‘rights’ - the right to be effing deported back to the country from which they came. Screw them. We don’t owe them anything.

“President Juan Orlando Hernandez stressed that Hondurans travelling to the U.S.”

“Traveling to.” That’s just too rich. How about “invading”, Juan?
