WASHINGTON - The Louisiana Supreme Court Friday (May 1) permanently barred former Rep. William Jefferson from practicing law.

Jefferson, 68, a Democrat who represented New Orleans in Congress for 12 terms, is serving a 13-year prison sentence in Oakdale for corruption and not scheduled for release until August, 30, 2023, when he would be 76 years old.

The Louisiana Supreme Court said in its ruling that it agreed with the unanimous finding of the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board that the conduct of the Harvard-educated lawyer is so egregious that he should not be allowed to return to the practice of law.

Mr cold hard cash in the freezer.

Yeah, and let's not forget he commandeered a National Guard truck to go get his cash after Katrina.

Isn’t Jefferson the one that had the National Guard take him to his house to recover his stash during Hurricane Katrina?

He's 68 and has made his money. What does he need a law license for? Who'd hire the guy?

He was a thorough LA Democrat, aide to J. Bennett Johnston, Jr., successor to Lindy Boggs, what’s not to like? Believe he lost a race for mayor. New Orleans people wouldn’t treat him this harshly.

Jefferson owned several vacant, blighted apartment buildings in the NO area for years.
He refused to sell them or clean them up, but somehow managed to continue paying property taxes and fines (or bribes) despite no rental income from the vacant buildings.
Vagrants, dope dealers, crack hos conducted their activities in and around.
Drove the neighbors nutz.
We suspected the real estate was being used to launder drug money.

This is the guy that Rush always referred to as Representative William Jefferson, DEMOCRAT, Louisiana because the media refused to identify him as a dem.
