A man in Rochester has been charged with providing material support to the ISIL, as officials linked Emanuel Lutchman, 25, to the terrorist group from Syria. It has been reported that Lutchman was in contact with a member of the Islamic State, and receiving direction from that individual.
The FBI's Rochester Joint Terrorism Task Force has been investigating this matter, and according to officials involved in the investigation -- Lutchman stepped up the pace of working toward an attack on New Year's Eve.
According to the few details that have been available at this juncture, Lutchman expressed a need for money to execute the attack, made several purchases at local businesses -- including a Walmart in the Rochester-area, and even told one informant on Christmas, "It's going to get real after this. Itâs just you, me, and the lord now."
Lutchman had previous convictions and had served time in prison. He told authorities once he was arrested that he wanted to carry out an attack in Rochester, at a nightclub or restaurant on New Year's Eve -- but was nervous about being caught or getting sent back to prison.
Officials also have pointed out that part of his reasoning for planning this attack in Rochester was to "improve his standing with ISIL." Assistant U.S. Attorney Brett Harvey will be prosecuting the case with the help of Trial Attorney Lawrence Schneider of the National Security Division's Counterterrorism Section.
This is the closest and largest threat that has been publicly known in the Finger Lakes Region, or Central New York as a whole -- which has caused some increased concerns about New Yearâs Eve plans individuals may have.
Yeah but they follow the Bible instead of The Satanic Verses.
Now...it's a Dem slum ruled by a new set of demographics.
High school graduation rate is about 40%...disgusting.
Just YESTERDAY the State told us there was ‘No credible threat to the homeland’.
While law enforcement remains on high alert surrounding the holidays in the wake of recent terror attacks, there are no known credible threats to the U.S., a top Obama administration official said Wednesday.
“We’re not aware of any specific, credible threats here in the homeland,” Kirby added.”

So sad.
Now we must be content with beautiful virtual communities, on the internet.
In which Xerox played a crucial role, so the circle of irony is complete.
Thanks, mm. Scarey.
Frederick Remington was actually born in Canton, NY, and lived for a time in Ogdensburg, NY. When my kids were little, we took them to the Remington Museum in Ogdensburg. As a kid growing up, the best part of Rochester, and the Rochester area was our local movie theaters, Sea Breeze amusement park, and Don & Bob's Restaurant. We didn't have a car, so had to walk or take buses to get around. My Dad worked for the NY Central Railroad, and we could ride the train for free. We'd go to the State Fair on the train every year. We'd also take the train early on a Saturday morning to Buffalo, to visit the zoo, get back on the train in Buffalo, and head to Niagara Falls, then take the train back home to Rochester...all in the same day. I can still remember the warm bologna, and tuna fish sandwiches we dragged along with us from home. Had a great childhood in Rochester, but wouldn't want to live there now.
Sad. What do our children have to look up to? Taylor Swift and Kanye West, I guess.
We’ve been to Sea Breeze, by the way. It looks like its seen better days, but my children loved it when they were little.
Thankfully, my sons are in their mid to late 40's, so Swift and West aren't of interest to them.
The last 50 years have not been kind to Upstate New York. I wouldn’t live there if they paid me. Especially after taxes.
Some of us are looking to get out. Two of my kids have already and the third is in grad school in the eastern end of the state and wants out as soon as she’s done, when it’s time to find a real job.
