British Gov’t Responds to Petition to Ban Trump: ‘Coming to the UK Is a Privilege…’

The British government has finally responded to a petition demanding that Donald Trump be banned from the country. Yes, the British government has the authority to ban certain individuals from the country if the people in question could be considered a public danger or a harm to society.

The government petition website requires 10,000 signatures to get a government response and 100,000 signatures to be debated in Parliament. As of today, it has over 500,000 signatures.

The petition was drafted in reaction to Trump’s call for a Muslim entry ban in the U.S., which plenty of British leaders––including Prime Minister David Cameron––strongly condemned.

Well, today, the government responded, providing the viewpoint of Home Secretary Theresa May. Here’s the response in full:

For good reasons the Government does not routinely comment on individual immigration and exclusion decisions.

The Home Secretary may exclude a non-European Economic Area national from the UK if she considers their presence in the UK to be non-conducive to the public good.

The Home Secretary has said that coming to the UK is a privilege and not a right and she will continue to use the powers available to prevent from entering the UK those who seek to harm our society and who do not share our basic values.

Exclusion powers are very serious and are not used lightly. The Home Secretary will use these powers when justified and based on all available evidence.

The Prime Minister has made clear that he completely disagrees with Donald Trump’s remarks. The Home Secretary has said that Donald Trump’s remarks in relation to Muslims are divisive, unhelpful and wrong.

Don’t forget they attacked us TWICE! First time was the American Revolution and the second time the War of 1812.

I didn ‘t realize it was a ‘privilege’ to go to the British Isles when I landed there in 1944, prior to D-Day at Normandy——the British Government seemed mighty glad to see the Yanks in those days and their women treated us well—cheers.Semper Paratus. They don't make 'em like you any more. Glad you stepped into the breach and stamped out a few dozen in your image, just in case. Best wishes to you and yours for the coming New Year.

Virtually every post on this thread seems to assume that Trump is actually going to be banned, or is likely to be so. That's simply not going to happen, and it's extremely unlikely that there will even be a Parliamentsary debate in response to this petition (they aren't triggered automatically by 100,000 signatures - there are getouts).

As for British interference in U.S. affairs: surely this all started because a US presidential candidate very publicly commented on British internal affairs. Cameron would have been wiser not to respond, but it was entirely legitimate for him to so if he so chose.

One of the best come backs to arrogant Brits complaining about the United States was something I read from a letter written back in the 1950s.

If you don't like our apples, stop shaking our tree.

See winnie’s post. The ban will not happen, not at all.

We don’t pull our weight, you ungrateful *****?.

We have just fought and died in Iraq and Afghanistan together. And Britain is the second partner in Nato, complete crap we don’t pull our weight.

Dead weight economically?. We are in a better state than you!. YOU are the ones who started the global downturn and YOU are the one multiTRILLIONS in debt. The UK economy has grown since 2010. We are much healthier financially than you.

The only butt is the one you are talking out of.

Nonsense, the UK is a safe country and friendly to the US. Ironic being told by an American my country isn’t safe.

And the two men who killed Lee Rigby are in prison for whole life tariffs. And the Muslim overlord comments are the usual pablum we UK freepers have to read here daily.

The Revolution was a civil war, where more Americans fought for the Crown or stayed neutral than were ‘rebels’, who WERE the attackers, as they were the rebellers. And the 1812 war was one where both sides were spoiling for a fight.

Oh, and don’t forget YOU attacked Canada in both wars (and got well beaten).

In 1814 we took a little trip along with Col Jackson down the mighty Mississip.

We took a little bacon and we took a little beans and fought the bloody British in a town called New Orleans.

Well we fired our guns and the British kept a comin but there wans’t quite as many as there was a while ago.

So we fired once more and they began a runnin on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. :-)
