Russian airstrikes could send ISIS forces towards Israel; Syrian regime could also retake areas near the border.
The IDF is preparing for the possibility that Russian air strikes will push Islamic State forces, currently around 40 kilometers away from the Israeli border, towards the Golan Heights in the coming months.
Additionally, the IDF's 210 Habashan Division, which defends the Golan Heights, is also closely watching an ISIS-affiliated militia, made up of some 600 members armed with tanks, mortars, and other weaponry, called Shahaha Yarmuk, which could decide to launch an attack on Israel in the future.
Both the Islamic State and Shahada Yarmuk are fighting al-Qaida's Al Nusra Front in Syria, and the ongoing battles between them, as well as battles with the Syrian regime, mean there is no likely immediate threat of an attack by the array of global jihadists in the area.
There are a few thousand Al-Nusra Front members on the Syrian Golan Heights near Israel, including near Mount Hermon.
The jihadist-salafi forces had attempted in recent months to move towards the Lebanese border, but were blocked by a Hezbollah offensive aimed at defending the Shi'ite organization's home turf of Lebanon from their approach.
Similarly, attempts by Syrian jihadists to seize the Quneitra to Damascus road have failed since Russia's air campaign to save the Assad regime began - the same air campaign that might result in the Islamic State retreating southwards, towards Israel.
Intelligence-gathering activities within the IDF's Northern Command have increased dramatically to keep up with all of the recent events, and track the capabilities and intentions of every armed group in southern Syria.
Security sources have described the intelligence task as very challenging.

I didn’t know so many different factions were fighting on so many different fronts. What a mess.
The scariest thing about ISIS is what few seem to understand. Their goal is not to win in any normal sense of the word. Their goal is to precipitate a massive conflict (Armageddon) with the rest of the world that does not share their beliefs (including other Muslim nations) that will cause the return of their God to smite their enemies and establish the whole world as the caliphate.
Their goal is destruction of any kind that will pull the rest of the world into conflict with them. They have no allies. They have no great strategic goals. They will do anything to draw the West into a conflict despite obvious evidence that they cannot win because they truly believe their god will return to win it for them.
In the end - they are all kamikaze warriors who will continue to become more extreme until they achieve their desire. Nothing is off limits for them. They are the enemy of all and all our muddling about in the sandbox has taken our eye off the biggest threat of all.
Sounds like a win-win. ISIS will be blocked in by both Russia and Israel.
Judean People's Front
People's Front of Judea
Popular Judean's People's Front
And so on...
Then they would be in Shahahashit.
If Israel does that you can bet Obama will launch a full-out attack on Israel.
The answer then is to kill all the ISIS bastards, every pea-picking last one of them.
They’re brain-fried & only extermination will end their murderous spree and might deter the recruitment of more of them.
Israel won't attack Iran unless they really need to. There are ways to mess up Iran from within, and I would expect Mossad to make that move first.
The only answer is to kill them. You cannot reason with them. You cannot win their hearts or minds. You can’t take their lands because they don’t really claim any nationality. You cannot deter them with the appearance of force because for them the goal is not victory - it is to precipitate the biggest conflict possible to cause Armageddon.
They will kill our children. They will commit the worst atrocities. They will never think like we do nor will they ever value life as much as they value death.
They are satanic.
They are waging total war.
We are not.
