I remember in the 1970s to 1980s you could go bar hopping all over Manhattan, get utterly lit and then 30 minutes to midnight head over to Times Square and watch the ball drop. I think last time I did that was 1991, me and my girlfriend got right up 43rd in the middle of the street right under the ball, it was amazing.
