A mall in Louisville, Kentucky, reopened this morning after over 1,000 teens loitering, fighting and refusing to leave businesses forced the shopping center to shut down Saturday night, police said.
Around 7 p.m., police started to receive disturbance calls from the Mall St. Mathews regarding "juveniles who were loitering, refusing to leave businesses, fights, those kinds of things," St. Matthews Police spokesman Dennis McDonald told ABC News today.
McDonald said the department always stations an extra police presence at the mall during the holidays, and there were six officers at the mall Saturday assigned to help mall security.
"As they responded, those calls continued to mount up and they could not handle the volume of calls that they were receiving," he said.
The incidents involved between 1,000 and 2,000 teens, McDonald said. Calls continued to pour in, so police requested assistance from neighboring agencies.

Thousands of teens involved and no pictures, videos, facebook posts, no mall video? Not denying the incident but where are the pics? Seems strange. Like the San Bernadino attack, cameras everywhere, no pics of the perps. Something’s going on.
They are GIVEN taxpayer funded smart phones. Absolutely, they should be confiscated. It’s exactly how they manage to execute these diabolical plans to disrupt, and to cause harm and injury. Let them earn their smart phone and make them pay for the damage they cause by doing ‘dirty work.’
I don’t have one myself (maybe one of the last people on earth NOT to have a smartphone) because it’s too expensive with the data plan. Somehow I’ve managed to live many decades without, and think i can survive a bit longer without needing a smart phone

I’m familiar with the area and the Mall due to my wife’s familiy being from Louisville. In fact she had relatives that were there on Saturday but left early due to a “bad vibe” ... Too many teens, too much rowdiness, the UK-UofL game underway.
The kids came in by public transit or were dropped off. It was the day after Xmas and it was raining all day. Mall St. Matthews is a big mall, with a food court (unlike more sedate Oxmoor Mall, which is just on the other side of the expressway).
The mall has seen a big change in demographics since a multiplex theater was added a few years back too. Along with an increase in fights and general rowdiness. There was a fight that went viral on YouTube a couple months back, and in late 2013 there was a brawl at the Santa area that happened right in front of a local news crew.
Do we have confirmation that the mall in Louisville was overrun by Amish yutes?

I’ve really become addicted to mine for access to FR, other news, weather radar, etc. (but no texting). Using the Android phone right now on Burger King WiFi. Tracfone, under $10/month full cost.
