Trump Threatens 35% Tax on Ford if Mexico Operations Expand
Mustang 360 ^ | 12/23/2015 | John Gilbert

It was the Detroit News headline "Trump goes after Ford Motor Co." not how long Hillary went overtime in the restroom that got our attention. Donald Trump made a whistle stop outside Grand Rapids, Michigan to take aim at Ford’s plans to expand production in Mexico. Trump promised if elected he would threaten manufacturers with big tariffs on imports to discourage building manufacturing plants south of the border.

Trump to Ford, "If you build that plant in Mexico, I’m going to charge you 35 percent on every car, truck part that you send into our country," he said. "Every single one." Trump went further saying he would engage in tough negotiations with car companies to build new plants in the US and Michigan. Political analysts say Trump’s proposal would at the very minimum require congressional approval and possibly violate NAFTA.

Speculation. No way to know until it happens, or doesn’t happen.

Well then if that’s the case, those people should probably examine their own beliefs and figure out if they truly are the best for the country.

Although, I’m generally willing to hear someone’s side of the argument at least once.

You got it. It will all need to be completely reworked from top to bottom.

What we need is Fair Trade, not D.C.s Free Trade which has greatly contributed to the decline of Middle America.

Btw, dirt cheap labor is a huge factor and has been since the beginning of mankind. If it were not, we wouldn’t have thousands of greedy unscrupulous employers hiring low wage illegal aliens by the millions.

Uh no, you can't judge by your protectionist circle-jerk here what the number of supporters of free trade are.

Yeah, we can't have people attempting to protect Americans and our economic well being.

Btw, Free Trade supporters are becoming a rarity, whether you admit it or not.

The country was founded on the idea of protectionism and the very first law ever passed was the Tariff Act.

No, the biggest factor has been our high corporate tax and out of control regulations and environmentalism.

How many time have Americans been told, "You can't do that, it's impossible, its not who we are, that's isolationist, nationalism is racism, you can't build a wall, you can't deport millions who entered illegally, you can't cut government programs, you can't tell corporation they can't setup in Communist China, you can't have English only, you can't tell people from other countries they can't come here....

Uh no, you can't judge by your protectionist circle-jerk here what the number of supporters of free trade are. The issue has been settled since the tariff disasters of the early 1800s, and then Smoot-Hawley put an exclamation point on it. Free trade is the best policy.

Smoot Hawlwey had a minimal impact ont the Great Depression, because ALL trade was less than 5% of the economy in 1935. So do you want white whine with your red herring?

Of course out of control corrupt taxes and environmental laws are a factor too. But instead of using the trillions to fight for their corporate cause, they just took hundreds of thousands of jobs overseas. Those back in the U.S. could not compete. How convenient huh?

It sure made it easy for those who had the mean$ and jumped on the Free Trade bandwagon which made it easy to wipe out the competition back in the U.S. Funny how that works.

In fact some of these criminal political frauds actually ginned up the environmental laws in the U.S. to kill off the competitors of those who took the jobs overseas.

Back door deals and bribes are king. Wink wink.

Free Traitors™, like yourself, go hermitile on threads that dare question the trade policies that have gone unfettered for 30+ years, policies backed by both parties and the largest communist country in the world. There is little or no sign of abatement except for Trump. It shows what f-ing intolerant fascists Free Traitors™ really are. Or are you scared?

Btw, dirt cheap labor is a huge factor and has been since the beginning of mankind.

Not a huge factor in international trade. Duties, taxes, tariffs are the huge factors and always have been, whether in the modern form or paying "tribute", etc.

If it were not, we wouldn’t have thousands of greedy unscrupulous employers hiring low wage illegal aliens by the millions.

Well, you're mixing issues here, international trade and hiring practices. Of course an employer will try to find the most inexpensive labor nearby that can still get the job done with quality. But if that were the huge determining factor, that employer would move operations to the country with the cheapest labor rather than hire illegal help. It's our corporate taxes and out of control regulation/environmental policies that actually drive companies out, and it's the big companies that can afford to make the move.

A young, agrarian, America became an industrial giant by imposing tariffs on imports. It is a fact. It is history. It would work again and that is why the parasites in D.C. Oppose it so vehemently.

Moreover the Free Traitors™ love the income tax. It finances the socialism that allows them to off shore labor without causing massive rioting and unrest here.

I’m well aware that in the day of the founders, the “liberals” were closer to what we are as conservatives today.

That’s why even though I still fall back into calling them liberals probably admittedly the majority of the time, it probably is most accurate to call them progressives today.

The bottom line is I tend to look at Trump as progressive in the sense of government, even big government, “managed right”, or managed by the “right” person, can be a wonderful thing.

What they did was export millions of American jobs overseas to cheap labor land, while flooding the U.S. with low wage labor. Some of us saw what this was going to do to Middle America.

All while the greedy SOBs running the corporations prodded and bribed the corrupt in D.C. to pass punitive tax and environmental laws to kill off any competition left in the U.S.

Your Free Trade associates understand this all too well Mr. Slinger

Yeah, we can't have people attempting to protect Americans and our economic well being.

Believe what you want will help and discuss it. I'm just saying a thread of a few protectionists here back-slapping each other is not indicative of neither FR nor America. You were saying since you were circle-jerking each other that not many believes in free trade. You're wrong.

Btw, Free Trade supporters are becoming a rarity, whether you admit it or not.

Again, you're wrong. Just because not many want to argue with you rude simple-minded people doesn't mean they agree with you. Like I said the issue has been settled in American history, every time protectionism was tried on a wide scale it failed due to bitterness and the perception that some states were getting ripped off by it. There is no serious attempt to go back to the failed tariff policies of the 17th and 18th centuries, so it's not worth arguing about to most. Trump is appealing to you because he knows you're simple-minded and want him for emperor to just go after the "evil corporations" (which is a very liberal concept, BTW), just like he said he wanted Oprah for VP, to appeal to the masses. Sorry, most Americans are small-r republicans, we don't want an emperor, Trump is going nowhere with his protectionism.

central_va, I've said it before, I'll say it again, you are the stupidest poster on this site. Everything you've said on this thread, you pulled out of your ass, meaningless. One of the dumbest was (paraphrasing) "tax policy has no effect on off-shoring". You are not to be taken seriously and I'm not answering your stupidity point by point.

you rude simple-minded people

So was George Washington rude and simple minded?

During the Revolution the Tories and loyalists wanted to maintain the status quo with England. The didn't believe in tariffs either. They wanted the colonies to provide raw materials and the British would "kindly" turn them into finished goods. These types sometimes ended up swing from lampposts. Not like that could ever happen again, no not possible....
