Hey Lauren. It might help you a bit if you listened to his campaign speeches. He is hawking Conservative programs.

Looks like he’s doing just fine as a Conservative. Nice of you to worry so much and try to protect Conservatives from themselves.

Whew, another idiot heard from...

Reagan won huge landslides, twice, because he was a patriot and not a globalist.

He never could have gotten 60% and >500 EV on the basis of conservatism.

As conservative columnist George Will put it, "Trump is indifferent to those conservative tenets."

True. Which is frustrating for ideological conservatives who want to see policies enacted which reflect basic principles. But there is a mass of people who, while not averse to conservative ideas, are not ideological and just want to see the country get back to some familiar and reassuring ground. They are the source of his broad based support.

Conservatives like Will, among others, would be well advised to befriend and support Trump and make some effort to inform his thinking rather than spitefully disparage him because he is not a pure bred.

"If you are a more traditional conservative, someone who has been active in issues like abortion or tax policy and market regulation, yeah, I could see some of those people being quite anxious about Trump because he is a total wild card," said Matt Dallek, an professor of political management at George Washington University who studies the conservative movement. "They don't know him and he doesn't know them. It is not clear that he supports their policies on many issues. Conservatives who have been successful politically did not spend years shouting from the hilltops."

Son of "presidential historian" Robert Dallek.

Here they are together:

Money quote:

The problem for conservatives goes beyond Trump's own positions, which over the years departed from the conservative orthodoxy. Trump lacks a basic sense of the values of the conservative movement, its jargon, or the deals struck over the years to hold the different elements of the movement together as a unified force.

He’s not a real conservative like Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell.

Merry Christmas

Our foreign policy begins at our borders, or it should.

Not a one of these ‘conservative’ candidates seems to appreciate that as well as Trump does.

Good point. But is their "familiar and reassuring ground" the same as Manhattanite Trump's?

Isn't today's mass media metropolitan Establishment world more familiar to Donald Trump than the world many of his supporters live in?

If Ms Fox thinks it is about leading a conservative movement, that shows how little Ms Fox understands the Trump following.

It is not about leading a conservative movement. It is about supporting some who is NOT establishment and can maybe break up the establishment hold on government.

Just today, Pelosi brags about how they hoodwinked Ryan and got nearly everything they wanted in the budget bill. That made Ryan part of the same uniparty politics.

I first came to learn about Trump in the seventies when I lived in New York. I formed an opinion of him that included some words that included: idiot, ego centric, self absorbed. I never thought that he might be a conservative. 40+ years since, I like what he has to say, but my opinion that was formed many years ago has not changed. Will I vote for him vice Clinton: Yes. Do I think that he can be a successful President, no. But, he is a better option than any Democrat candidate.
