Cruz fires back at Washington Post with a cartoon of his own
The Hill ^ | December 23, 2015 | Elliot Smilowitz

After crying foul over a Washington Post editorial cartoon that depicted his children as "political props," presidential hopeful Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) turned the tables Wednesday with a drawing of his own.

"Seems like a better idea for a cartoon: Hillary and her lapdogs," Cruz wrote on Twitter.

Attached to the tweet: An image showing Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton walking two dogs labeled as The New York Times and The Washington Post.

The Post on Tuesday retracted their original cartoon after a firestorm of controversy.

The animated cartoon featured a Santa Claus-costumed Cruz winding a music box as two leashed monkeys dance in elf costumes. The monkeys represent Cruz's daugthers, Caroline, 7, and Catherine, 4.

"Classy. @washingtonpost makes fun of my girls. Stick w/ attacking me--Caroline & Catherine are out of your league," Cruz tweeted Tuesday with a link to the cartoon.

Cartoonist Ann Telnaes wrote that Cruz waived the "unspoken rule" to leave politician's kids out of campaigns with a TV ad that ran during last week's "Saturday Night Live."

"When a politician uses his children as political props, as Ted Cruz recently did in his Christmas parody video in which his eldest daughter read (with her father's dramatic flourish) a passage of an edited Christmas classic, then I figure they are fair game," Telnaes wrote when the cartoon was published.

On Tuesday evening, a note from editor Fred Hiatt appeared on The Washington Post's website reading: "It's generally been the policy of our editorial section to leave children out of it. I failed to look at this cartoon before it was published. I understand why Ann thought an exception to the policy was warranted in this case, but I do not agree."

A better cartoon than Hillary just walking those lapdogs, would be the dogs crapping and Hillary stepping all over the poo. Even falling into it. After all, she’s drunk most of the time.

I know they did, and that was really scraping the bottom of the barrel, but it’s disgusting none the less and we as Americans should not stand for it...

Remove the P.C.B.S. we have been strapped with these years and tell these people they are what is floating down the sewers of America every day....

Brother Ted’s tweet might have been funnier still if the dogs had been pictured relieving themselves on or near a lamp post :-) Fair enough - he shot back at them.

How about a cartoon of Huma Abedin clocking Hilary’s potty breaks with a stopwatch? (It must take a long time to pull down and then pull up 3 layers of spandex.)

According to The New York Times, Clinton campaign vice chairwoman, Huma Abedin, expressed concern to debate organizers before Saturday’s contest, held in the gymnasium of St. Anselm College in New Hampshire, over the relatively long trek the Democratic front-runner would have to make to go to the bathroom.

Facilities for Clinton’s debate opponents, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, were “significantly closer” to the debate venue, The Times reported.

Anticipating a problem, Abedin reportedly timed how long it would take Clinton to walk from podium to potty and determined that a round-trip would take the former secretary of state three minutes and 30 seconds of walking time. That posed a problem because of ABC News’s five minute commercial break, which was dictated by the network’s live broadcasting schedule.

Cruz shows his daughters in a very charming and funny video and the Washington Compost declares it open season on his daughters. In contrast, Obama repeatedly used his daughters in campaign ads and the Compost gave him this glowing article:

First family is front and center in campaign ad

We all know that the media is blatantly biased. That is a given. But this is truly breathtaking hypocrisy. Imagine the media reaction if anyone had published this cartoon:

“I’m not a Cruz fan, but that was way below American standards and that news agency should be shut down permanently.... “

Just wait till he gets the nomination and you will see more racist stereotypes in print than a mexican themed taco night fraternity party.

Good that he’s hitting back, but he needs to name the cartoonist, strongly insult her (lack of) intelligence, and clearly state that anyone who agrees with her is an idiot. Really harp on the stupidity and cowardice. Do NOT take “the high road”, kick her in the crotch. He should publish her home address, and any other personal info his people can dig up.
