Ted Cruz is going to wake up to an early Christmas gift from the polling elves at Quinnipiac University, as their new results show him making a YUGE leap in popularity to gain on the front-runner Trump. For his part, he increased by one point as well.
Donald Trumpâs perch atop the 2016 presidential polls is looking a little shakier this morning.
In the latest Quinnipiac University national survey released Tuesday, Trump leads Texas Sen. Ted Cruz by just four percentage points.
Trumpâs share remained essentially unchanged from the universityâs last poll, ticking up one point to 28 percent. Cruz, meanwhile, shot up eight percentage points to 24 percent.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio finished third with 12 percent, a five-point drop since late November, while retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson continued his downward spiral with 10 percent, a six-point hit in the same period. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie registered 6 percent, his highest level of support in a telephone poll since late May. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush took 4 percent, while all other candidates earned 2 percent or less and 8 percent remained undecided. Of those who named a candidate, 58 percent of Republican voters said they might change their mind before voting in their stateâs primary.
Cruz commanded pluralities of support over Trump among those describing themselves as members of the tea party (38 percent to 27 percent) and white, born-again Evangelical Christians (33 percent to 22 percent). Cruz also led Trump among very conservative supporters (38 percent to 27 percent), while Trump led at least nominally in every other demographic polled.
But itâs close. Among men, for example, Cruz trails Trump 30 percent to 29 percent, while among those with a college degree, he trails 24 percent to 21 percent.
In other results, it looks like Cruz does best in a head-to-head competition with Hillary, but he finishes even:
.
Trump’s rallies are 90% union goons bused in.
The rows of buses always tell the story in politics.
Outlier
Cruz is the real deal. He can get votes needed to defeat hitlery.
.
Pipe dreamer!
I believe Trump is the real deal. He can get votes needed to defeat hitlery.
Exact same point. I say Trump is far, far stronger.
Trump said Cruz should have worked with the GOPe and not called them out on their lies. Trump also admitted he was apart of the establishment.
Trump is the GOPe real deal.
Cruz is the Conservative’s Real Deal.
“He can get votes needed to defeat hitlery.”<———What he said.
A ginned up poll to show Cruz close to Trump nationally. Don’t believe any of it... it’s just an attempt to change the narrative going into the new year. More polls will be out soon to show Trump still far ahead.
Oh, I see. Thank you for clarifying.
My take: I support Cruz and give him what little money I have, the first candidate ever for me.
But if he does not make it, I will vote for Trump.
I will take either, but I give to Cruz.
So a vote for either, is a vote for both, in a way.
Reagan was an eight year governor of the most populous state in the country. A proven conservative who had ran once before for president and lost. He was well-known commodity. Cruz has been a US senator for less than three years. In the three years he’s been a senator he’s done anything of note except talk about conservatism. He needs some experience. We have had an experienced idiot for the last 7 years who can’t get along with anyone. Cruz needs to go back to the senate with the other youngster named Rubio and pay his dues. Both are career politicians and career politicians are the ones that got us in the damn mess we’re in now.
Bush is staying in...If the numbers stay as they are, all Bush needs is 30% to win...Trump or Cruz is going to have to drop out...
“They’re questioning if he’s the better candidate to take the general..... And”
You keep saying this, fine but Cruz is polling much better than Trump vs Shrillery. Trump and CLinton have saturated name recognition nationally, Cruz has much lower name recognition among the general public. He has far more room to grow than Clinton or Trump.
Cruz will eviscerate Clinton in a debate. Clinton may not even consent to any debate w Cruz.
Excellent!
I think he most definitely could. The people who stayed home for Romney will be out in full force for Cruz.
Sadly, in staying home, they elected another term of Obama which is far, far worse.
As it is...we have what we have now.
I also believe Trump would win the national.
I think Ricky Ricardo should be Ricky “Flipper” Ricardo.
GO TED!!!!! America needs the best, and that is YOU, Ted!
I like ted, but I think he has -zero- ability to get anyone who has ever voted democrat to vote for him. He is cast as an ultra right wing hard liner. So hard right that even the GOPe thinks he’s an extremist.
That is just a fact as to how the other side views him.
Trump is going to easily pull traditional dem voters. Blacks already like him more than anyone we have ever run. Blue collar types. Union types. All ones that gave Reagan his landslide. It isn’t even unthinkable that he could pull New York.
I want Trump to be the wrecking crew that cleans DC out.
Pols as news....is just stupid.
