Ted Cruz is going to wake up to an early Christmas gift from the polling elves at Quinnipiac University, as their new results show him making a YUGE leap in popularity to gain on the front-runner Trump. For his part, he increased by one point as well.
Donald Trumpâs perch atop the 2016 presidential polls is looking a little shakier this morning.
In the latest Quinnipiac University national survey released Tuesday, Trump leads Texas Sen. Ted Cruz by just four percentage points.
Trumpâs share remained essentially unchanged from the universityâs last poll, ticking up one point to 28 percent. Cruz, meanwhile, shot up eight percentage points to 24 percent.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio finished third with 12 percent, a five-point drop since late November, while retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson continued his downward spiral with 10 percent, a six-point hit in the same period. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie registered 6 percent, his highest level of support in a telephone poll since late May. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush took 4 percent, while all other candidates earned 2 percent or less and 8 percent remained undecided. Of those who named a candidate, 58 percent of Republican voters said they might change their mind before voting in their stateâs primary.
Cruz commanded pluralities of support over Trump among those describing themselves as members of the tea party (38 percent to 27 percent) and white, born-again Evangelical Christians (33 percent to 22 percent). Cruz also led Trump among very conservative supporters (38 percent to 27 percent), while Trump led at least nominally in every other demographic polled.
But itâs close. Among men, for example, Cruz trails Trump 30 percent to 29 percent, while among those with a college degree, he trails 24 percent to 21 percent.
In other results, it looks like Cruz does best in a head-to-head competition with Hillary, but he finishes even:
If Cruz ever passes Trump, theyâll go to work on HIM.
They canât stand a conservative leader."
Of course...that goes without saying. You can always tell who they fear, and they've tried to freeze out Cruz from the beginning.
Fortunately, he is more than equipped to handle the attacks coolly and effectively. He welcomes the fight.
I'll ask you the same question as above.
Speculate for us the identity of voters who go for Cruz, but switch to Hillary when presented with Trump.
Doesn't pass the smell test.....
Yes, if they existed, they might.
But even if they do exist, Cruz needs 64 electoral votes that Romney could not win. Please (anybody) tell me WHICH STATES, ADDING UP TO 64 EV, can Cruz win that Romney lost?
Cruz's plan all along.
Source for what?
Yep. What that poll indicates to me is a perception by the public that they want not only tough, which Trump conveys, but also intelligence, which Cruz exudes. With all the threats the US now faces, people are going to love the way Cruz looks right into the camera and tells you he will protect America. Hillary? What a joke. She is not going to protect America. I wouldn’t elect her dog catcher.
Go, Ted, go! The conservatives’ choice.
But it's not arrogant when you Trumpsters frantically swarm Cruz threads, yelling that your hero is inevitable, LOL.
Funny how you expend so much effort on a guy who just can't win and is no threat at all.
Fixed.
More polls looking good for Cruz.
Thank you, but I think you are mistaken.
Cruz "track record" is non-existent.
Oh sure, his record on positions is first rate, but his record of accomplishments is quite another matter.
Chuckle! That’s easy. The college educated, evangelicals(they hate gay marriage which Trump supports) etc. Hey the poll says half of Americans will be embarrassed to have Trump as president. That is a very high hurdle for anyone to climb.
Hey why don’t you go to Quinnipiac’s site and read the details yourself instead of asking me? It’s all there mate.
You know what I'm looking forward to?
Seeing the faces of GOPers like Mitch the Gobbler and Paul Ryan as Cruz takes the oath of office.
It's going to be gold.
Cruz has been proposing a wall since 2011.
Wow, just WOW!!! If Cruz ends up taking both Iowa and SC, that might just put him on the inside track to the nomination. Especially if he can take 2nd or 3rd in NH. He will be on a huge roll!
You may be right. Where are the pictures showing the YUUGE crowds that Cruz is attracting where ever he goes? I haven’t seen any. And I was a Cruz guy early on. Not anymore.
Let’s hope Cruz doesn’t step on his schlong and it just may be Trump/Cruz 16!
You're chuckling while claiming "college educated evangelicals" are going to vote for HILLARY if they can't have Cruz?
Please see my post #11....
Rather than squabble amongst ourselves, Cruz and Trump supporters should delight in the demises of Ricky Ricardo and Sleepy, and the slight bump to Don Koharski which helps to tie up Ricky and ShortBus.
Onward through the fog!

I agree ... and could wholeheartedly support either Cruz or Trump (with my preference being Cruz). But we definitely should refrain from bickering amonst ourselves. We are on our way to accumulating enough Trump & Cruz delegates that we may well be able, with the election of Trump and/or Cruz, to take over the national organizations of the party and purge those organizations of the ‘RAT-lite RINOs.
By the way, I understand your reference to Ricky Ricardo (as allegory to Rubio), but I picture Rubio more as the “Call for Philip Morris” bellhop—see the below link to see what I mean.

Who knows, this could be a new employment opportunity for Rubio after he has been moved out of the Senate in January 2017.
Chuckle!
FTC.
Youngest Solicitor General of Texas for 5 years.
Argued and won more cases before The US Supreme Court at his age than anyone else.
Best Appellate lawyer in the country when he was a partner in a law firm in private practice. There are few human beings who are more accomplished than Ted Cruz. But keep spewing out that garbage.
