If Taylor Swift ever believed she had bad blood before, boy does she have it now. Over her birthday weekend, the young queen of pop watched a bomb with her name on it explode after the famed feminist critic Camille Paglia published a shockingly scathing attack on Swift, calling her a blond, elitist “Nazi Barbie.â€
Yes, such a cheap and sensationalist shot at a fellow female comes from one of America’s most well-known and respected feminist writers. Paglia is a self-proclaimed “notorious Amazon feminist†and isn’t exactly your stereotypical bra-burning, Birkenstock-wearing feminist. Her ideology is as nuanced as her interpretation of feminism is hard to pin down.
Nonetheless, Paglia is a feminist warrior at heart, fighting for every woman’s right to succeed, thrive and pursue her wildest dreams. Incidentally, Taylor Swift has done just that, becoming the de facto poster child of big-picture feminist philosophy. For Paglia to rip Swift to shreds, even stooping to associate her with fascism, is a lesson in hyperbolic hypocrisy.
Swift is a feminist’s dream mostly come true. She is young, smart, self-made, mind-bogglingly successful, in charge and fiercely independent, both in business and in her personal life; she is unmarried and runs her personal brand with an I-make-my-own-decisions attitude. Swift has power, control and command of her life, all the things today’s young women are told to pursue.
And Swift has a gently rebellious independence of character, too. The only song I've ever heard Swift sing is that awful Christmas song. Totally mediocre voice.
I've read several of Paglia's books, and while her theories about sex are little cockamamie, she's an interesting writer.

I agree with you. She is an excellent songwriter. That is a level of talent above those who are merely great singers.
Paglia became well known in the 90s by attacking the big names of feminism. She still does. By doing so she became persona non grata to most leftists especially leftist feminsts. I suggest you do a little research about her.
BTW, Paglia was a featured guest in one of Rush's newsletters a few years back.

My only knock on Swift is the company she keeps. They’ll mess up her mind. It always happens. There’s a certain skank named Lena.
I don’t know her music but everything I’ve heard about Swift as a person has been positive. She’s not the “seen leaving a club at 4am drunk” type. More like the “seen leaving the children’s hospital before heading to her show” type.
Thanks for posting this drivel of hers....she’s a second rate leftist thinker. I attended several functions with her in the 90s when she was popular & I like her, but never confused her chaotic “philosophy” with first-rate political thinking. Her whole attack on the Sopranos TV show was an utter joke.
At least she detests Gwyneth Paltrow with a detestation almost beyond reason. Maybe she understands Paltrow better than I do.
