CBS NEWS December 18, 2015 School Cancels Santa Field Trip After Mom Objects
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Parents of San Jose school kids confronted a school board Thursday night after a decision to cancel a field trip to see Santa Claus followed a complaint by a Jewish mother who objected to the school-sponsored outing, CBS San Francisco station KPIX-TV reports.
The visit to Santa, along with a "Dear Santa" assignment, was a decade-long tradition at Sartorette Elementary School, part of San Jose's Cambrian School District.
Last week, the Sartorette staff informed parents the school would suspend the outing to see Santa at a local coffee shop after a Jewish mother, who identified herself only as Talia, complained to the school board that the district was celebrating one religion over others.
"We need to teach about all the holidays," Talia told KPIX-TV. "We live in a global society."
Talia said that as a result of her complaint and the decision by the school board other parents began to bully her.
"I had some parents that called me a communist, that said that I didn't want any holidays in the school," she said.
Some parents are blaming Talia for ruining Christmas.

This is not the message of Chanukkah (though most [non-Orthodox] Jews seem to think it is).
[Talia said that as a result of her complaint and the decision by the school board other parents began to bully her.
I think her kid is going to pay for it out on the playground. Some kid saying, “hey Golden, Silver, Diamond Moneystein, thanks to your mom we didn’t get to go to see Santa”.
No thought given to “I don’t want my child to participate in that so I will not be having MY child participate in that - the rest of you have fun.”
I would have said - “sorry, no, my kid will be doing something else - you guys have fun at the mosque. And WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE YOU COME BACK TO SCHOOL!”
Every school allows a child to stay at school and not participate.
This was totally about ruining everybody else’s time.
I do hope parents give the witch hell.
I also think this is a non practicing Jew.
All the antisemites come out to play. Where did you learn Christianity ?
What is truly ironic, is that Jesus celebrated Chanukkah and not his birth day, whenever it was.
Does that make you a non practicing Christian ?
Replacing Jesus Christ with Santa Claus is a poor gift of oneself for the season of Advent. I hope you are able to attend Midnight Mass instead and reflect on the Messiah and honor His blessed mother instead of attacking a Jewess.
Two Jewish kids told my friend’s daughter who is in Kindergarten. That Santa is not real.
‘’I also think this is a non practicing Jew.’’
I agree. All practicing Jews I know are very accepting of Christmas celebrations. They understand that true Christians are in solidarity with Israel. Sounds like this woman is a stirrer-upper.
Careful. Can’t say any Jewish person is bad. You’ll be called an anti-Semite.
.
A mother.
One.
.
What possessed a school to have such a field trip for years and years? It certainly wasn’t the spirit of Christ.
How odd ...
I easily searched the web and saw her interviewed at home with a very recognizable kiddish cup and menorah in her dining room. It was also easy to find that her grandparents were among the few Jews who escaped Poland, also a Christian nation, in time.
What is even odder is how few who purport to celebrate Christmas do what Jesus said to do.
He was probably celebrating His birthday during Hanukkah.
Once again ... It is long past time to get government out of the business of education. It is long past time to abolish government controlled schools. Education is far too important to let government continue to make a hash of it.
Celebration of birthdays was not a scriptural, nor a Jewish, tradition. Do you know what Hannukah is and where it is mentioned in the Bible ?
Santa us secular, not like they celebrating Christ.
Neither Santa Claus not Thor are real although they get a lot of air time on TV. St. Nicholas is real. If Santa Claus were St. Nicholas he would be telling all the children about the Messiah instead of asking what toys they want.
