This week, Saudi Arabia announced that it was forming a new "Islamic military alliance" devoted to fighting global terrorism. The plan stemmed from the "keenness of the Muslim world to fight this disease, which affected the Islamic world first, before the international community as a whole," Deputy Crown Prince and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman told reporters during a rare news conference.
In many ways, this alliance seems designed to calm Western critics who have frequently complained that the Muslim world isn't doing enough to combat terrorism and extremism. However, the details of the planned alliance are more than a little unclear and have left some scratching their heads, unsure who exactly is in the alliance and what it is actually designed to do.
And as you can see, much of the reaction on social media hasn't been positive.
Saudi Arabia has tried hard recently to convince the West that it is taking the lead on tackling the problems of extremism and terrorism. But it's no exaggeration to say there are some perplexing aspects to this new alliance.

The whole thing is like Obama’s Nuclear “agreement” with Iran — THERE IS NONE.
A total of 34 nations have been declared as members of the alliance, but already some countries have come out to say that they never agreed to anything.
If they nuke Mecca that would be a good start. Oh, never mind. /s
This alliance is going to take our money, our weapons and our technology and turn it against us. We will wind up funding our own destruction.
Nice.
I miss the concept of the Neutron Bomb(Wipe out life without massive and lasting radiation). If we stuck with this type of capability to “bomb” a place like an exterminator and return to living there not soon after it would be awesome.
Peddlers of Evil
Very few Americans seem to understand that Fundamentalist Muslim terrorists now threaten to destroy not only the United States but all of Western Civilization, and even fewer seem to be aware that the source of this threat is Saudi Arabia. It is almost never mentioned in the Liberal dominated news media that the Saudis have not only bankrolled these Fundamentalist Islamic terrorists, but they have also provided the bulk of its foot soldiers, leadership cadres and, of course, Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaida network.
For over forty years, the Saudis have sent out their Fundamentalist Muslim missionaries to spread their Wahabi sect of Fundamentalist Islam throughout the Mid East and around the world. In every country with Muslim populations, Saudi Madrassas (boarding schools/orphanages) have been constructed and staffed with Islamic Fundamentalist hate mongers. These Madrassas have provided a free education to any male Muslim child (females receive no education in the Muslim world) who wished to attend. In addition to a basic education, Saudi Madrassas have indoctrinated their pupils in Fundamentalist Wahabi Islam that taught them to hate all infidels (non-believers), especially the United States and Israel. These Muslim students have been taught from childhood that it is their God’s will that they endeavor to either kill or convert to Islam anyone who does not worship their God, and if they should die while obeying this edict, they will go to Heaven.
Like Arab rug merchants, Saudi hate-mongers have peddled their evil brand of Islam from the Balkans to Chechnya, Algeria, Pakistan, and Indonesia. Every place they have set up their Madrassas and indoctrinated their followers with Fundamentalist Islam, Muslims have begun to murder their non-Muslim neighbors. It is from these Saudi Madrassas that most Muslim terrorists and suicide (homicide) bombers have been recruited, and it was from these same Madrassas that the September 11 attackers came. But not for Saudi funding, these mad men would still be in their desert hovels, abusing their women, loving their livestock, and worshiping a God who has more in common with the Satan as found in Judeo-Christianity than he does with the Father of Jesus.
“In many ways, this alliance seems designed to calm Western critics who have frequently complained that the Muslim world isn’t doing enough to combat terrorism and extremism.”
Pretty much. The ‘alliance’ is a pacifier to tamp down criticism of muslim inaction against terrorism. It’s like the Episcopal church built on the wrong side of the tracks to keep riff-raff from going to the main church downtown.
Closer to home, it’s like the atrophied appendage of the Republican party known as the RLC, Republican Liberty Caucus, meant to make libertarians think they have a voice in the GOPe. A fossil of it remains on Free Republic’s forum list just after Religion and before the Smoky Backroom, long after most libertarians have been shown the door.
The neutron bomb has been called the perfect
capitalist weapon. It gets rid of the people
and preserves the real estate. Hey, it works for me.
It's not terrorism when you're the one doing it - it's justice.
If you ask the right Imam, he'd tell you that sawing off heads and burning people alive isn't terrorism, it's legal punishment for sins. He'd also tell you that dropping laser-guided bombs on civilians from 30,000 feet is truly a terrorist act. In his eyes, we're the terrorists, not them.
I know it sounds odd, but the Saudis might actually believe they don't condone or support terrorism. They believe it's those other people, though - those people they don't agree with - they're terrorists! And they must fight against them with all the weapons they have, even if innocent people are killed.
That's the rationale that excuses killing Yazidis and Syrians, Kurds and Copts, Hamas and Hebrews. Anti-terrorism is becoming a catch-all phrase, this century's version of "it's for the children"
âIslamic military alliance against terrorism’ makes about as much sense as a ‘Rapists Alliance To Promote Virginity’
Werenât most of the 9/11 terrorists Saudis as was bin Laden? The Saudis forming a muslim anti terror coalition is like Willie Sutton forming up a posse to catch bank robbers.
the losers at WaPo sense the Obama tide is out for ever
correctly
the world has told him he is irrelevant on the world stage
“... some perplexing aspects ...” Saudi just gave its approval to Qatar to permit a contingent of 3000 Turks to set up a base there ...
I think the Saudis are desperately trying to win back some of the initiative in this game - the operation against Assad is not going well for them; the lower oil price is not going well for them etc. And this is some sort of response to the recent challenge from Putin.
President Trump will understand. He already has indicated he knows the downside of the Saudis.
Here’s what a nuclear engineer has to say aobut it:
Now, a neutron bomb, is just an ordinary nuclear weapon that is designed to maximize the output of neutrons. When detonated high over a city, the radiation kills everybody in the city and leaves the buildings alone. After a few weeks or months, all the short lived, irradiated isotopes have pretty much decayed away and the altitude of the weapon sufficiently dispersed the radioactive materials from the bomb itself and you can take over the city within about six months with no trouble. This is the cleanest application of nuclear bombs, but all the radioactive material went into the atmosphere, it didn’t just disappear.

The compost like Obama is irrelevant in thoughts on this matter
the peace monger Hussein has forfeited his relevance for trivial ideological falderal
The world has gone mad, truly mad!
This idea to declare war on ‘terrorists’ is causing so much confusion in the world that no one can discern what is going on.
When ISIS/ISIL first declared itself a “State” I said from the beginning to the world needed to acknowledge it as a “state.” For one very important reason, it takes their tactics and terrorism out of the realm of crime and acknowledges the war, acknowledges an enemy, and defines them militarily. It also removes the excuse or idea that we are fighting a religion, that so many on the left claim goes against our values and Constitutional ideals.
It is way past time to get this stuff out of the civilian system and put it in the military system where it belongs.
