McConnell's plan to halt Obama (August 2014 Flashback)
Politico ^ | August 20, 2014

Mitch McConnell has a game plan to confront President Barack Obama with a stark choice next year: Accept bills reining in the administrations policies or veto them and risk a government shutdown.

In an extensive interview here, the typically reserved McConnell laid out his clearest thinking yet of how he would lead the Senate if Republicans gain control of the chamber. The emerging strategy: Attach riders to spending bills that would limit Obama policies on everything from the environment to health care, consider using an arcane budget tactic to circumvent Democratic filibusters and force the president to 'move to the center' if he wants to get any new legislation through Congress.

In short, its a recipe for a confrontational end to the Obama presidency.

'We are going to pass spending bills, and they are going to have a lot of restrictions on the activities of the bureaucracy,' McConnell said in an interview aboard his campaign bus traveling through Western Kentucky coal country. 'That is something he won’t like, but that will be done. I guarantee it.'

Notice this was prior to the '14 election.

One day after the election he took all this defiance off the table and became Obama's bitch in the senate.

Cruz labeled him for all time: "Liar".

Clearly we cannot count on a Republican controlled Congress to accomplish anything. However, it is absolutely necessary to keep the House and Senate under Republican contol in order for a Conservative President to accomplish anything. There is not much that President Cruz or Trump will be able to get through a Senate controlled by Chuckie Schumer.

So my biggest priorities next year are to elect a Conservative President and keep the Republicans in control of Congress. That will give them two years to reverse eight years of Obamanation.

2018 will be the year to take start cleaning out all of the RHINOs.

I say just give the president more power all the time. Might as well just “tee” this thing up for Trump....

The Republican Party of today is even less trust-worthy than Hillary Clinton.

Hillary will lie behind your back, Republicans will lie to your face.

The federal government is dysfunctional and beyond repair. It will collapse of its own weight. Having a majority in the Senate is counterproductive in this dysfunctional reality. The minority party has veto power. The GOP is more effective in the Senate when it is the minority in the Senate.

Not even Reagan could reverse the trend, and the courts and bureaucracies are firmly in favor of "more government power."

If you believe your efforts will fix the problem(s), you will eventually be heartbroken. Government will never propose, let alone effect a solution to itself.

The minority party has veto power.

The minority power has no veto power unless the majority party allows them to have it.

Under the Reid Rule (formerly known as the Nuclear Option), the filibuster rules can be changed at any time whenever and however the majority party wants. The Republicans will never exercise the Reid Rule but the Democrats clearly will whenever it suits them.
