'That Is Not What You Said At the Time': Bret Baier Confronts Cruz on Previous Immigration Remarks

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was confronted by a Fox News Channel host Wednesday over previous comments he had previously made in favor of legalizing individuals who are in the U.S. illegally.
The line of questioning was prompted by an exchange over immigration Cruz had with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) at Tuesday night's GOP debate.
'Special Report' host Bret Baier played a 2013 clip of Cruz introducing an amendment that would have stripped out a proposal for a pathway to citizenship from the gang of eightâs so-called 'amnesty' bill. Cruz boasted at the time his amendment would have allowed illegal immigrants to remain in the country legally.
'They would still be eligible for legal status and indeed, under the terms of the bill, they would be eligible for LPR [Lawful Permanent Resident] status as well so that they are out of the shadows, which the proponents of this bill repeatedly point to as their principal objective, to provide a legal status for those who are here illegally to be out of the shadows,' Cruz said at the time.

"... they don't believe Trump will make the sky fall...."
Or that Trump will USE
"EMINENT DOMAIN" for PRIVATE USE to POSSESS
THEIR LAND to build another Trump HOTEL !
Donald Trump and Eminent Domain, August 22nd, 2015
... More, Trump has publicly defended the confiscation of private property for eminent domain, even when the use for which the property is confiscated is purely private in nature:
Trump consistently defended the use of eminent domain.
Interviewed by John Stossel on ABC News, he said:"Cities have the right to condemn for the good of the city.
Everybody coming into Atlantic City sees this terrible house instead of staring at beautiful fountains and beautiful other things that would be good."
Challenged by Stossel, he saidthat eminent domain was necessary to build schools and roads.
But of course he just wanted to build a limousine parking lot.
Once again, this is Donald Trump's vision of private property rights when he was just another private citizen.
Imagine how much more damage he could do as the leader of the Federal executive branch.

Itâs all there on the pages of FR going back nearly a decade. Many of the same names from election to election, though some come and go. Same excuses. Nothing is done to stop them. Just a handful of us pushing back.
Yep, the election season trolls who just nest among the supporters who appears to be popular and tear down the true conservatives.

We know Trump won’t be building any hotels or casinos in Iowa because he supports subsidizing wind energy there. It would be different if it were near property he owns.

Rush Limbaugh from 2013.
Cruz also filed amendments that he says would 'strengthen border security measures.'" He wants to, okay, look, these 11 million, whatever we're gonna do, they will never be granted citizenship. You can do whatever you want with them, but they'll never be granted citizenship.

I don’t know if I trust Cruz on immigration. But I trust the other candidates much less on immigration. I there any Republican, besides maybe Tancredo, that can be trusted on that issue?

Trump says itâs important to get along in congress. He is going to catch HELL if he sins, and thatâs good. Thatâll mean heâs doing the right thing.
————Agree, but also Donald knows that in business you need to understand and manage your competition & enemies - the political class doesn’t fully comprehend how that happens.
The Donald attacks when they use their smears, or weasel words, and many of us get exactly what he is doing with his “antics”
Also, when will Hilly & Barry O get the same scrutiny on “ positions” or statements.

There was Duncan Hunter in 08 but he was torn down to make room for Fred Thomson who was the political Justin Beiber of 08.
He was a pro at using the poison pill tactic. The Open border boys wanted to slip things past us by the tea spoon so Hunter would drop a 55 gallon drum of the same into the bill and the open border boys would scatter to get away from it.

I think all this, shall we say, “unhinged” Trump/Cruz bashing needs to come to a halt. Right here. Right now.

Didn’t Cruz also recently back down on his position regarding the issuance of half a million H-1B visas per year?

Cruz' perennial doleful, woebegone expression is a dead giveaway.....he
thinks it makes him look sincere.
BTW, looks like he botoxed his Count Chocula eyebrows....so they'll stay in place.
He has this disconcerting habit of raising his eyebrows to accentuate his remarks. Sometimes he forgets...the brows loom.....but thank heavens, botox does its job.
Botox was a good move for Ted.

Brett nailed Cruz as a liar. Never seen Cruz at a loss for words or without a quick comeback. So, will Cruz supporters fanatically support him despite his amnesty lies?

Poison pill Poison pill Poison pill Poison pill Poison pill. Was he lying then or is he lying now? He said what he said in the clips that are being re-played. What they are not addressing, is that the amendment Cruz put forth did not give illegals citizenship, it just legalized their existence in this country (conditionally), and it precluded them from voting for 25 years. He was trying to demonstrate that the only reason the democrats were trying to get a "comprehensive" immigration bill passed that included a path to citizenship, was to gain millions of new democrat voters. It had nothing to do with the merits of immigration reform.
Cruz knew the democrats would never go for it.

Wordsmithing a question slightly for content is an infamous sleazy media tactic. Bair failed to realize that Cruz has a photographic memory for these things.

Wrong. Cruz’s amendment was following Rush Limbaugh’s idea that “amnesty” could be supported as long as the illegals could not vote for 25 years.
In other words, just as Cruz said, exposed the hypocrisy of the democrats and RINOs who simply wanted illegals as new voters.
