Just a litter reminder that on this day 71 years ago Hitler launched his final offensive in Western Europe in an attempt to capture the Belgian port of Antwerp and force a split in the Allied coalition. It would become known as “The Battle of The Bulge’’ and it was the longest and bloodiest continuous single battle The US Army ever fought. From the moment the attack began on December 16, 1944 until it was declared ''contained'' on January 25, 1945 there wasn't a day, an hour or even a minute when some US Army unit was not in contact with the enemy. My late Uncle Fred served with the 84th. Infantry Division and barley made it out alive. He was wounded but alive.
