Obama demands compassion for Syrian refugees as he swears in new citizens
The Washington Times ^ | December 15, 2015 | Stephen Dinan

President Obama made a pitch Tuesday for Americans to remember their immigrant roots, describing the U.S. as the traditional home for refugees fleeing the world's worst troubles.

He compared today's climate of fear over immigration and terrorism to what he called some of the darkest days of the country's immigrant history, such as when black Africans were brought in the slave trade, when Irish and Chinese faced discrimination and when Japanese were pushed into internment camps during World War II.

"In the Syrian refugee of today we should see the Jewish refugee of World War II," the president said as he addressed several dozen newly sworn-in citizens at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Obama is trying to regain his footing after years of Congress ignoring his demand that they legalize illegal immigrants, and more recently after terrorist attacks in Paris and California raised fears over adherents to radical Islam using the immigration system to sneak into the U.S.

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump has called for a temporary halt to admitting Muslims into the U.S., while a large bipartisan majority in Congress has demanded more checks on Mr. Obama's own vow to accept 10,000 Syrian refugees this fiscal year.

The president warned against giving in to those demands, saying the country has always struggled with those sorts of calls at difficult times.

The issue is not about compassion. It is first about the continuity of rooted American citizens; second, about the safety of this generation of Americans. Obama, like generations of Leftist propagandists, has deliberately obscured that issue.

Consider the history & defined purposes of many American settlements:

Religious considerations as to settlement in America could not be clearer. All up & down the Atlantic coastal States, you will find religious factors in who settled in what communities--many deliberately intended to represent particular theological views, values & desired associations.

The Founding Fathers made it very clear, also, in leaving virtually all questions of social value out of the delegations of power to Congress; moral issues being left to the States, many rooted in particular religious sentiments. Equally clear is the way the First Amendment was worded. It forbid any Federal interference with local religious establishments--read it for yourselves. The ACLU has deliberately falsified the issue.

Then consider the precise language in the Preamble to the Constitution, which defines the purposes for even having a Federal Union! It is specific to a specific people--the Founders and their "posterity," their lineal descendants. It is about preserving their liberty to be themselves; certainly, not forcing them to act like "citizens of the world"--or something equally fanciful & oxymoronic. America was never about uniformity. It was always about the Liberty of specific peoples to be themselves.

It is an absurd overreach, that a particular people, deciding to protect their continuity, are somehow wronging any other people. We need to stop accepting the insults of those who want to diversify the heritages of the world's unique peoples into some form of social chaos--where nothing is sacred; where all material & cultural achievements are effectively appropriated by social theorists.

There is nothing morally wrong--or even controversial among rational people--in any community wanting to preserve their unique heritage for their own posterity. On the other hand, there is a great deal very wrong with a President, sworn to uphold the Constitution, who has already deliberately flooded rooted American communities with re-settlements of large numbers of strangers (who adhere to completely incongruous value systems.), without the consent of those targeted communities. This has effectively destroyed local school systems.

It is not Trump who is betraying American values. It is the political slanderers who are pulling out the stops to arrest his campaign.

So true-the gaggle of “refugees” from muslim-dominated countries seem more like the Nazis I’ve read about who ran off to South American countries at the end of WWII-most notably Argentina-so send these muslim “refugees” there-I’m sure they will be welcomed...

He views our country as the garbage dump for all third world refugees, particularly unvetted Moslems.

Were the Jewish refugees threatening Jihad before they even got here?

Good post, very well said.

0bama has ignored our Constitution and any law he doesn’t personally agree with and the media for the most part is mum.

Trump proposes a common sense measure that is also lawful and the media crucifies him.

You’re so right. That in itself is a high crime in my view, he is breaking his oath by not protecting this nation.

The most compassionate thing you can do for theses people is help them win their country back for them, not compel them to fly all over the world to foreign lands seeking refuges.

If Obama should have been able to do that with in a year. ISIS really isent that big or numerous, and taking territory is easy for the US army.

Until that is however done theses people would be far better off in secure reugee camps than spread around around the world. There is no compassion in taking them here, just foolish risk of their safty and ours.

Meanwhile, our wonderful GOPe congress refuses to impeach this clownfart. Is it any wonder that so many Americans are so disgusted with the inside-the-beltway surrender to leftism? I think that is a big factor in Trump’s appeal.

...we should see the Jewish refugee of World War II...

How ironic for a Jew-hater like OMuslim to spew that particular lie...

“In the Syrian refugee of today we should see the Jewish refugee of World War II”

That’s an insult to Jews! No Jews weren’t barbaric terrorists.

The Nazis at the end of WWII - by that time they were
headed off with their tails between their legs shocked
that they weren’t going to be dividing up the spoils of
war. - The Nazis and the Jihadists. Two peas in a pod. -
My dad fought the Nazis in WWII. He would just be
totally in disbelief that a Democrat President could be
working overtime to load this crap on us. He loved FDR,
his Commander-in-Chief in WWII - even Harry Truman for
ending that war with the bomb. He did vote for Reagan.
Daddy passed away in 2002. - Oh well. We gotta buck up.

I’m all out of compassion. Period. Government compassion costs too much money and I’m all out of that too. Thanks to government.

You can’t demand compassion for illegals and radical muslim jihadis while totally sh1tting on the actual citizenry, and expect to get it. Or even be believed.

It chaps me that Hussein O. chides us for fearing “women
& children”. Most of the photos I’ve seen (Gates of Vienna
& other sites) are of mostly huge mobs of military age
Muslim MALES in long mob lines - no women or children to
speak of. In fact, many women have been deserted in Syria
and other hellholes and are royally PO’d at their men for
it, too!
