Chris Kyle killed two muj on a scooter with one .300 Winchester magnum bullet.Rumor has it that an SAS took out four with one .50 cal Barrett.
Round went through first two, hit third guy, who was carrying an explosive item which killed fourth guy.
I've also heard rumors of more than three penetration on a fairly routine basis.
At 2750 fps out of a 26 inch barrel (or is it 27...can't remember), I can see it penetrating 6 or 8 within a hundred meters.
We'll never know the full story, until all the crap is over and the classified records are released.
We do know the record is slightly over 2500 meters, one body, with a .338 250 gn Lapua Mag, pushing over 3000 fps.
I see no reason for one not to penetrate several bodies at 200-300 meters, so it's a safe bet that it has already happened.
Like some others have commented here...am I wrong to find so much satisfaction and fascination in the subject?
Nope...I say kill 'em all, one way or the other.
