A Texas plumber has dealt with death threats and abusive phone calls after the Ford truck he sold to a local dealership showed up in the hands of jihadists in Syria with his company sign intact. Now he is suing for at least $1 million in damages.

Not sure whether to laugh or cry over this . . . but interesting to follow the route this truck took.

One odd story. I find myself sympathizing with the plumber, but . . .

Why would they sell the truck without painting over the name/logo?

What auto dealership thinks it can sell such a white elephant?

Why would they sell the truck without painting over the name/logo?

Who are you talking about? The dealership or the plumber?

From an earlier story, the plumber went to peel off the decals, but the salesperson said they'd do it, otherwise the paint would be damaged.

The dealership saved money by not peeling off the decals...

>>Why would they sell the truck without painting over the name/logo?<<

MUI removing the logo would have ruined the paint (although doesn’t the logo sort of do that?).

Anyway, this is a frivolous suit since there is ZERO legal obligation to change the vehicle in any way before reselling it, nor is there a requirement to vet the buyer.

If the original owner didn’t want his logo on the truck he should have removed it himself or at least put a clause in the sales contract the buyer would do so with a liquidated damages clause.

This is going nowhere.

Why would he sell the truck with his company name painted on the side? Did the dealership charge him to paint over it (by reducing the resale value) and was that documented in the sales contract?

I would never sell a vehicle with my company’s name on it. Even if it doesn’t go to terrorists, it could just go to some local jerk who would spread a lot of bad will by driving rudely.

Thank God for the British and Russian news services.

Printing all the news we used to get from the NYT.

I also have some sympathies for the plumber, but the moral of the story seems to be, always remove your branding before getting rid of a vehicle.

"The dealership saved money by not peeling off the decals..."
Apologies if I've repeated an earlier posting: I would have thought that the dealership could have got a better price by removing the decals before selling on, but it appears maybe not. It certainly would have been easier than risking a court case!

I would never sell a vehicle with my company’s name on it.

I might not have a problem, because my company name is "I KEEL YOU, INFIDELS! Inc."

He should have taken it off for his own protection. Once it’s out of his hands, the new owner can do anything they want with it. Never trust a used car salesman. He won’t get a dime.

Had 2 brothers from the ME who would buy every rear wheel drive Chevy Caprice or Bonneville I got hold of. They would pay several times the actual worth to get them. Said they used them for taxis and could not buy front wheel drive cars because the sand played hell with them.
This was around 90-91 never knew what happened to them the cars dried up and so did they.

If you can't scrape it off, put a pig decal on top of your logo.

What America needs is an econo-AGM. A missile powerful and accurate enough to take out a ten year old, heavily armed Ford F250 when launched from a drone at 10,000 feet - but cheap enough to make it worthwhile to do so.

LOL. If he'd a just gone to the paint store and got a can of black Krylon he would have saved himself all the headaches.

Now who is he going to sue? And in what court will the suit be decided?

United Nations?

World Court?

He has a smidgeon better of a chance in those places rather than any US court.

The dealership breeched the contract it made with the plumber.

Furthermore, the dealership offered and ‘wrote’ the contract, which matters a lot in these types of things.

The plumber simply accepted it.

The dealership is dead in the water.
