Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl to face most serious kind of court-martial in Army desertion case

Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl will face general court-martial in connection with his 2009 disappearance from his base in Afghanistan, the service announced Monday, raising the possibility that the soldier could face life in prison after being held captive for five years.

Bergdahl, 29, is charged with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. He has been a political lightning rod since he was exchanged in May 2014 in a prisoner swap approved by the White House in which five Taliban officials were released from the military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and kept under supervised watch in Qatar.

Interesting development. Did the Pentagon threat to go rogue on Odunga if he medaled in this decision? Or will the trial will be dragged out until after Jan. 2017 per Odunga at which point he can give a flying truck. Hey Momma and Papa Bergdahl, smart enough to figure out you were used and abused for a Photo Op. in the Flower Garden? CHUMPS!

There’s gotta be something in the water or the air to live life without a clue, as shown by those WaPo article comments. My father, a WW2 vet, would be so spitting mad by this. I guess it’s best he’s not here to see how far down the sewer this country has gone since his generation’s sacrifices.

You posted: “Resulting in the death of his squad mates.”

You are incorrect with this statement. Fortunately none of Bergdahl’s “squad mates” died in the search for him. However, there were 5-6 other soldiers who were involved in the search who were killed and several dozen wounded. A small detail, but I wanted you to know that. Most of them were interviewed on Fox News several times after he was ransomed.

I make no comment about the other parts of your post.

Don’t know what news you watch but it’s been reported that the squad he was attached to went out looking for him and subsequently were killed. Don’t correct me, correct the news source. As for the other comment of mine, most people know what LWOP means, however for you I’ll let you know it means: Life WithOut Parole. Thanks for playing and have a nice day.

The photographs of the 6 dead soldiers are in post # 20. My source that no one from Bergdahl’s squad was killed in the subsequent searches for him was from the mouths of his fellow squad mates on Megan Kelly’s and Sean Hannity’s tv shows.

If one can’t trust them to say that none of the members of their squad were killed I don’t know who to trust. And they stated that they knew that other soldiers of the several hundred involved in the search were killed.

Here is a link to Breitbart story that lists the names of those killed: http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2014/06/04/the-names-of-those-who-died-searching-for-a-deserter-named-bergdahl/

“Though the 2009 Afghan presidential election slowed the search for Bergdahl, it did not stop it. Our battalion suffered six fatalities in a three-week period. On August 18, an IED killed Private First Class Morris Walker and Staff Sergeant Clayton Bowen during a reconnaissance mission. On August 26, while conducting a search for a Taliban shadow sub-governor supposedly affiliated with Bergdahl’s captors, Staff Sergeant Kurt Curtiss was shot in the face and killed. On September 4, during a patrol to a village near the area in which Bergdahl vanished, an insurgent ambush killed Second Lieutenant Darryn Andrews and gravely wounded Private First Class Matthew Martinek, who died of his wounds a week later. On September 5, while conducting a foot movement toward a village also thought affiliated with Bergdahl’s captors, Staff Sergeant Michael Murphrey stepped on an improvised land mine. He died the next day.:
