The Coming Ted Cruz and Donald Trump Showdown
Slate ^ | 12/11/15 | John Dickerson

Cruz is demonstrating a skill a president must have: avoiding a confrontation for a larger goal. During political campaigns, there is an obsession with presidential action. The party out of power demands that the president do something in response to everything. But it’s often the case that letting a situation develop is the wiser course. That’s the course Cruz is on.

He jumped in by trying to profit from the death of a girl by the hand of one of the kind of illegals that have made his own business profitable, and few even saw the irony.

I will copy and post this response often. Your response is disgusting.

HERE IS A FORMAT FR MEMBERS BELONGING TO A TEA PARTY GROUP COULD SUGGEST TO THEIR RESPECTIVE TP GROUP

IT USES THE QUESTIONAIRE CAMPAIGN TACTIC THAT BRINGS OUT THE ISSUES THE MEDIA WILL NOT TOUCH
WHICH TEA PARTIERS COULD SEND OUT DURING THEIR FUND RAISING EFFORTS TO DEFEAT THESE GUYS

We are tired of bills are not being read and billion$ and trillion$ of dollars in legislation called omnibus bills get passed. Fundings then get shoveled into agencies with the results being government intrusion as well as its employees that grow into our lives regulating US how we; eat, sleep, pray, get married , and think

Should your Senator or congressman have voted NO on any such 1000 page or more Omnibus funding bills of extended duration beyond 60 days if congress did not do its job and consider (read) what it is passing? (Yes) or (NO) ? If they voted no and the socialists and the MSM will scream government shutdown.

Would you still support them? (Y) (N) (Maybe). Should Obama care be (fixed) or (dumped) And if either votes to fix and not dump it will you support them for another term (YES) or (NO)

Should your group make this an issue in this campaign.YES NO

IRS EPA. INS..These agencys are out of control INS....
The people who head these agencies get approved by the senate and swear an oath to support the constitution not the executive branch or the president.

Should your congress member support hearings Investigating their funding and operation (Y)(N)
If such officers are found guilty of abusing or exceeding their legislative authorization .
Should they support their encircle which ( censure) (impeachment) (defunding)...If they refuses to do so will you still support them in 2016 ? YES NO

EPA Own waterfront property? You cant clear your waterfront jungle. Federalized property collecting water during a rainstorm and Pay more for the b/s in your gas & idiot lites in your car. Watch what you flush because higher electric bills will save the world and the bankrupt campaign contributers in the solar industry. Ordered modifications on gasoline and diesel engines which greatly increased their cost with regulations that yielded questionable results.

It is time to reign in EPA Funding? (Y)(N)

INS...Amnesty.. Forget about Ebola
We do not allow cattle to enter without a background health and ancestry check. Which we also reqiure of legal immigrants who wait years and still go thru health and record checks. We also require that any legal immingrant demonstrate prior to entry that they offer a contribution to our society and not dependency upon it .

Yet we are letting children and gang bangers in without doing any of this which has resulted in dispersing virulent new diseases (measles) and drug use which has resulted in unreported cases in schools where these illegal kids were placed.. Plus shoved a severe financial strain on local governments where they are placed .
.
Should those given this bypassed favored treatment who miss their INS hearing be deported fortwith ? (Y) (N).. Should that apply to convicted felons ? (Y) (N) Denied re-entry (Y)(N) ?

Should any candidate for Attorney General supporting the regimes open borders policy including sanctuary cities be denied confirmation ?(Yes) (No) .

Should the senate have rejected any such candidate to be Attorney General by voting if needed setting aside the 60 vote majority and applying the simple majority Reid rule citing the Hanen court injunction ruling that would restrict the use of the Reid rule to use only when such a ruling by the court is made ? (Yes) (No)

In countries such as Mexico which claims areas of the United States. Where an American citizen decides to be a legal retiree never mind being a seasonal visitor still are denied voting privledges. Own land in their own name. Face steep fines before getting kicked out .Let alone denied income and energy subsistance including food stamps, or bring in family members .

Should we deny such full citizen privledges to any (emigree) (seasonal vistor) (illegal) if their country does not allow those same privledges we are presently offering illegals to any citizen of the United States living in that country. Yes No

Would you continue to support a Congress member who refuses to support such reciprocal restrictions ? And by doing so believes the United States should support open border one world socialism ? (Y) (N)

Would that also include erecting border barriers such as fencing designed to discourage surrepticious or uncontolled entry ? (Yes) (No)

Should any American citizen which goes overseas to join a foreign entity fighting against the United States (such as ISIS) Be denied re-entry (Y)(N) and their citizenship revoked? (Y) (N) Should that person be charged with treason (Y) (N)

If Hillary has trolls looking in on this site they are loving what they are seeing. A split on the GOP side of any substance guarantees Hillary gets elected. If Trump goes 3rd party or if Trump supporters refuse to vote for Cruz if he takes the nod it will be over. Folks, you need to remember Perot. You need to remember Bull Moose. You are certainly entitled to your favorite candidate but you must be willing to untie under the greater cause and defeat the greater enemy. If Free Republic is a microcosm of general right-thinking people the liberals are licking their chops. Let’s be honest: Trump is nowhere close to being a conservative but he’s a damned sight better than Hillary would be.

Talk abou irony! We all know that the mainstream media wants a fight between Cruz and Trump, and we get on FR and give them exactly what they want! IF we keep this up, Hillary beats the RINO of the day, in a landslide. WAKE UP!!!

Too bad so many on this sight love to pit on against the other.

RE that and your tagline:

Ted Cruz and Donald Trump are IN COMPETITION WITH EACH OTHER.

They are pitted against each other in pursuit of something they both want, but only one can end up with: the Republican nomination.

We may wish we could have a little of each, or both, but reality is that we ONLY GET TO CHOOSE ONE.

One of them, Donald Trump, looks good at first blush but on examination proves to be extremely flawed and risky; Trump promises to be tomorrow what he was very opposite of being yesterday.

The other one, Ted Cruz, has a history of being yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that, what he promises to be tomorrow.

They are very different from each other, they are competing with each other for the same office, and I will continue to show people how very much they ARE pitted against each other, let people know that it's OKAY to "pit them against each other," and how important it is that YOU and every other Republican choose one side or the other SOON.

I am looking for more of a merger.

Why? Because you want a little bit of each? Because they're both so good you can't decide which?

Or because it's common for the winner of a primary race to name his closest runner-up as his VP and it's a realistic thing to yearn for?

Here's the thing. We may wish we could have both, but we will only get one or the other. We have to choose one. Carefully. And SOON.

Ted Cruz will ask Donald Trump to be his Vice President, and Trump will accept. Trump will pledge his GOP Delegates to Ted Cruz, and the rest will be history.

FRiend -- what evidence do you have for reaching that conclusion?

Yet, you continue to bash him.

I know, it wasn't addressed to me, but it has been a time or two. Bashing would be saying his mother wears combat boots. Bashing would be saying he's phobic protectionist with weird hair.

Stating facts about the guy -- that while a registered Democrat he had warm praise for Bill Hillary Clinton and also for John McCain, whom he publicly endorsed -- in 2008, that nightmare time when we cringed voting for loathsome McCain; the next one, Romney, was even worse. But Trump "found" the Republican party switched parties to Republican in 2009 -- the party of McCain and Romney, whom he supported.

That's not "bashing" Trump. It's stating a hard cold truth. Look it in the face.

I'm hoping for the best from Trump, but it's awfully hard to trust someone who voted for Obama.

Incorrect. As far as I know, if one is to believe Trump's words, he voted for McCain and Romney.

He was registered as a Democrat when Obama ran and McCain got the nomination, and while he had effusive and warm words for Hillary and Bill Clinton, publicly endorsed McCain, calling him a "smart guy" (these days, he calls him a "dummy"). Some wondered if it wasn't a response to Obama failing to name Clinton as his running mate -- Trump loved Hillary at the time.

It will come down to which of the three is best organized in the delegate hunt aspect of the game.

In that contest, Rubio slips in.

For me the more important question is, what to do if Rubio or Trump gets the R nomination? Either one is a loss for conservatism and another leftward tack.

Imagine -- if next November we're looking at a ballot where we're being asked to vote for Rubio? See my tagline.

I swear, it's Lucy and the football every four years. They don't call it the "stupid" party for nothing. I really almost wish Cruz had/would break free and declare himself an Independent candidate, because he's no more Republican than the man on the moon. In a world where Romney passes for Republican. Trump joined the Republican party six years ago, right when it was becoming the party of Romney. I didn't leave the Republican party, it left me.

Watching it unfold ... all I can say is truth is stranger than fiction.

Rubio seems to have no ground game at all. Maybe in Florida?

He’s relying on insiders and advertising, just like Jeb.

I don’t usually post on FR. but have been here for years. Yesterday, while reading, it really got to be too much. Please read post 158. The stuff about Kate Steinle is truly disgusting.

I keep seeing posts from long time freepers, that will leave out a word, so that they can totally change the meaning of what was really said, you know like the MSM does, that I thought we all hated them for doing.

one poster yesterday said that Trump wanted to remove all Muslims from the US. Another said that DT wanted to shut down the internet. I could keep typing all day, but I thought on FR we tried to keep outright lies to a minimum. This is not honest discussion. Honestly, this is getting embarrassing.

Here's the thing...I already have. Cruz is my candidate, all of the way. Which I have indicated here on FR on many occasions.

Having said that, the best thing Cruz and Trump could pull on the GOPe the DNC, and the MSM is some kind of rope a dope where they make a huge deal out of supposed rift, where in reality none exists.

If Cruz does not win the nomination...and I am going to do all I can to help him win it...then we will all have to look at who does win the nomination. If that is Trump, I will vote for him in a heartbeat, despite some of my own concerns about him, over Hillary or any DNC candidate.

You're caught in the cycle, saying that we can do anything in the world all by ourselves, even down to remaking the world.

It doesn't work out, so you blame allies and others, and think if only we didn't have to deal with them, we could do anything, so you launch us into more messes, which you can blame on outside forces.

It's like complaining about "nation-building" being the problem, and saying all we have to do is get in and get out, so we are forever getting in, getting out, and going back in again.

Reagan had a better understanding of what we can and can't do in the world. That's why so many of his people were skeptical of GW Bush's later attempt to remake the Middle East. Reagan turned down some of the projects that were suggested to him, like invading Panama, because he understood that we weren't omnipotent and shouldn't try to be.

To get back to the original topic, you're also caught in the cycle of expecting a lot from politicians and being disappointed when they don't deliver everything you expect from them.

It takes a lot to be even a mediocre president, and Trump hasn't shown that he has anything like the ability to be a successful one.
