Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge said Friday that he would not support Donald Trump as Republican presidential nominee â and that "a real possibility" existed that he might not vote at all in next year's election if that is the case.
"I think he is an embarrassment to the party," Ridge, who became the nation's first secretary of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush in 2003, told Neil Cavuto on Fox News. "If he is the man who has the votes, then that's the way it will be."
But when asked whether he would support the billionaire developer, Ridge said: "No. I can't vote for Donald Trump."
For Democrat Hillary Clinton?
"No," he replied. "I couldn't do that either. I know I can't support Donald for a variety of reasons."
"What does Tom Ridge do?" Cavuto asked. "Don't vote at all?"
"A real possibility," the former governor said. "It would be tough for me ⦠, but I don't think Donald Trump will get the nod."
Trump hit back sharply on Twitter:
Donald J. Trump Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Follow Tom Ridge should be focused on trying to bring the party together rather than ripping it apart w/ your faulty thought process. I will win! 1:37 PM - 11 Dec 2015
Donald J. Trump Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Follow Tom Ridge is a failed 'Bushy' & PA Governor. Him & his friend @KarlRove shouldn't be allowed to do their bias commentary- nobody listens! 1:49 PM - 11 Dec 2015

Without Trump, we wouldn't even have a chance at a President Cruz.
I believe they are a tag team. I'm for them both. Either is fine with me. Eight years of Trump with Cruz as VP followed by eight years of Cruz and somebody as his VP works for me.
This has become the sickening new meme being propagated by the GOPe. That “meme” takes several forms. One is “Trump/Cruz (take your pick) can’t win”. A second is “I won’t vote for Trump/Cruz (take your pick)”. Another is “maybe it would be best if Hillary wins rather than Trump/Cruz”.
That last form of the meme is the most disturbing to me. An example of it was in an S. E. Cupp item in Townhall on December 10th where she called Trump supporters “goons” and hoped that Trump would run as an independent. Cupp wrote “I’m increasingly thinking this is the best thing for the party, even if it means a certain victory for Democrats”.
Thank you for the endorsement, you failed Stasi cadet.

That was John Ashcroft.
Ronald Reagan was known as The Great Communicator. He drew massive crowds that drowned the GOP machine.
Ditto that.
Donald Rumsfeld.
The Geriatric Old Plotters cannot, -CANNOT- get their heads around the fact that they are not merely resented, not merely rejected, but are actually passionately detested by those they betrayed for the past three decades. If there were a delete button for them, it would have been pushed LONG ago.
Republican elites like Ridge need to stop talking about Trump. Hate hearing this.
Conservatives are not divided. Conservatives have been infiltrated by notcons. The masks are off now is all. The notcons were NEVER on our side.
With every denunciation of people who stand up against the tyranny, we find out who are truly our "friends" and who belongs in the "trash heap" of history!
A Ridge Too Far
Too bad his appeal is limited to a narrow group of conservatives.Or narrow minded group of conservatives.
Good. One less Democrat to vote.
My prayer is that you will look at our candidates carefully, vote, even in the primaries, as though your childrenââ¬â¢s and your grandchildrenââ¬â¢s future depend upon it, because they do

Look 10-20 years down the road with your eyes wide open to today’s reality and you will see that Islam is the number 1,2, and 3 problems down the road for our children. For all his warts, Trump recognized it AND MORE IMPORTANT, immediately has spoken up (knowing how castigated he would be for saying it) showing that he will not stand for the threat that Islam represents
Cruz would make the perfect VP but Trump is a doer and who this country needs right now.
Republican elites trash Trump more than they do Obama.
Thought Cheney was part of that small group of patriots but maybe not so much.
Well...it does seem to be working...right on cue.
Not sure if it is narrow-mindedness. I get that some conservatives don't like Trump cause he's an unproven political commodity and has had to side with both Democrats and Republicans to push his businesses forward.
They see Cruz as a true conservative and principled. Nothing wrong with that.
My concern with Cruz is he'd be painted as an extremist in the general election and the mushy-brained independents will side with the gravy train of handouts and vote Hillary.
I'd like to see Trump a little more polished as he does have a crassness about him.
