After a week of tension between the two Republican presidential candidates, front-runner Donald Trump took a shot at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Friday, saying that âoil companies pay him a lot of money.â
âWith ethanol [Cruz has] gotta come a long way,â Trump said in Des Moines, Iowa. "Heâs right now for the oil. But I understand if oil pays him a lot of money, heâs gotta be for oil. Right?â âBut Iâm with you,â Trump told his supporters, noting he toured ethanol plants in Iowa last month.
"If Ted Cruz is against ethanol, how does he win in Iowa," Trump asked.
The billionaire businessman also slammed Cruz as a copycat.
âThe one guy that is doing pretty good with me in Iowa is Ted Cruz,â Trump said. "Everything I say, he agrees with me. No matter what I say.â
He later seemed to take a shot at Cruz's background.
âI do like Ted Cruz, but not a lot of evangelicals come out of Cuba,â Trump said. âBut I like him nonetheless.â

“Big Oil” is liberal code for evil capitalists.
Go Cruz!
Cruz is bought and paid for by his donors and apparently crony Big Oil is one of the biggest.
Trump has to do it. If it comes down to the two of them, Trump will get his ass handed to him by Cruz in a one on one debate, and he knows it.
Nobody dictates Cruz’s policies. Ted’s positions are dictated only by his fealty to the Constitution.
The fact that Cruz refuses to attack Trump not only galls the mainstream media, it annoys the heck out of Trump. Heâs in a tizzy. So he is trying to goad Ted into attacking him, which isnât going to happen.
Cruz is a Texas Senator, he’d better be on the Big Oil payroll.
I knew we would reach this point...two good candidates (not perfect) that will have to go at it with each other. I just hope they keep it classy...so far they have done pretty well, but time is ticking and they both can’t be president in 2016. It will be painful to watch them attack one another. Go Cruz...Go Trump!
The fact that Cruz refuses to attack Trump
Cruz has attacked Trump on 3 or more occassions reently: 1) on databases (when Trump wasn’t talking databases, he was talking about building the wall) 2) on banning Muslims being unconsitution and being a religious test (Mark Levin said it wasn’t unconstitution and wasn’t a religous test) and 3) when he questioned Trump’s judegement and said he was just being nice so Trump would fall on his own (this showed Cruz’s true colors.)
Just because Cruz says he won’t attack Trump, doesn’t mean he hasn’t. Cruz saying he won’t attack Trump after Cruz attacks him is being passive agressive.
I like evil capitalists,
The real kind, not the cronies who rely on their paid-for “buddies” in government trying to force widows out of their homes by inappropriate use of eminent domain.
Thanks for reminding me. Cruz was right to back Kim Davis.
Those are policy disagreements, not attacks. Cruz has defended Trump against the attacks of other candidates.
Can’t trust Trump’s judement or finger on nuclear button is not an attack? That’s the ultimate attack and insult. He also hit Trump on the Muslim issues.
and when Cruz hit trump on databases, it for something Trump didn’t even say. But Cruz hit Trup anyway.

All good points.
From TedCruz.org
"It is blatantly false to suggest that Sen. Cruz wants to end the Renewable Fuel Standard while maintaining subsidies for oil," Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler said. "Cruz has repeatedly stated that he would end all energy specific subsidies, both ethanol and oil among others."
Earlier this year in a speech delivered at Heritage Action in Washington, D.C., Cruz said, "Big government energy mandates don't stop with ethanol. There are tax credits for almost every form of energy. Each designed to give one industry a leg up over the other."
Things just got interesting wouldn’t you agree?

Trump's Record on Free-market Issue: (from the Conservative Review)
Trump has a terrible record on free market issues. The only bright spot is the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing, but this glimmer is countermanded by his repeated support for bailing out Wall Street and the auto industry, and increased stimulus spending. Of particular concern is Trump's belief that the government can use eminent domain powers to seize private property in the name of private economic development. This comes as no surprise, given his support for using eminent domain to profit his own company.
Trump supported the Supreme Court’s 2005 decision in Kelo v. City of London, allowing public authorities to seize private land for economic development by private investors; Trump said, “I happen to agree with [the decision] 100 percent.” (National Review) This is no surprise given Trump’s attempt to use eminent domain in his own line of work. (Institute for Justice)
Trump supported President Obama’s 2009 stimulus, saying: “The word stimulus is probably not used in its fullest…you know, certain of the things that were given weren't really stimulus. They were pork, as we call it, or they were gifts to certain people. But overall, I think he's [President Obama] doing very well. You do need stimulus and you do have to keep the banks alive.” (CNN)
Trump supported TARP, saying, "You had to do something to shore up the banks, because ... you would have had a run on every bank." (CNN)
Trump supported the 2008 auto bailout, saying, “I think the government should stand behind them 100 percent. You cannot lose the auto companies. They’re great. They make wonderful products.” He also said that the federal government could “easily save the companies.” (Daily Caller)
Trump criticized the Federal Reserve’s intervention in the debt market, saying quantitative easing creates “phony numbers” that mislead the marketplace and “will not ultimately benefit the economy. The dollar will go down in value and inflation will start rearing its ugly head.” (CNBC)
Donald Trump has a history of using eminent domain to complete business deals. Multiple times Trump has supported the use of government agencies to take possession of homes and businesses for use in his private business plans. Eminent domain seizures are reserved only for public use of property rather than abuse by the government taking property from one individual and giving to another. (Washington Post)
Donald Trump has sought and received crony capitalist tax breaks for his commercial properties in New York. These tax breaks, and even an abatement, force the property taxes of other property owners to rise at the expense of the connected. Special treatment for one business or industry over another with the tax code conflicts with free market principles. (National Review)
In 2009, Trump supported Barack Obama's call for limits on the pay of executives. (CNN)
Donors influence, weird that you are trying to ignore that. You wouldn’t give Jeb or Rubio a pass on it.
Cruz was silent on illegal immigration for most of the campaign. While all the other candidates had a clear position, he said nothing. While taking money from The Club for Growth. He finally came out with a plan, and it’s ok but weaker than Trump’s. It pretty much gives illegals amnesty if they can steal or get a job under the table or get Catholic Charities to support them.
You don’t want to get in an ugly fight - except to say Trump has no character and is corrupt? Your holier than thou façade is slipping!
