GM said it will sell the Chinese-built Buick Envision, a crossover SUV, in the U.S. market starting next year.
The UAW attacked the plan, saying it was "a slap in the face." It said GM should reconsider its plans and instead build a version for the U.S. market at a U.S. plant.
"The men and women of GM and the American taxpayers who invested so much in GM's future deserve better," said the union.
GM agreed in its latest labor deal to invest $8.3 billion in its U.S. plants over the next four years to create or retain an estimated 3,300 jobs. It increased U.S. employment by 14,000, or 18%, between the end of 2009 and the end of last year.
GM already has big operations in China, and sells more cars there than in the United States. Since 2011 it has exported about 157,000 cars from its U.S. plants to China. Buick has been a very successful brand in China.
Automakers prefer to build cars close to where they're sold. Even Asian automakers such at Toyota (TM) and Honda (HMC) build most of the cars they sell in the United States at their U.S. plants. But critics of U.S.-China trade policy are concerned that China, with lower labor costs, could steal share in the U.S.
GM says the Envision was designed in Michigan. It says it will fit well into the Buick lineup between two other crossover offerings, the Encore and the Enclave.

Trump sez... “Ain’t happenin!”
More Obamanomics.
The union boys are surprised that the Democrats sold them out?
Hahahahahahaha!
Welcome to the party, boys!
The Democrats sell out everyone!
today a miracle happened....
we were purchasing Christmas presents... trying to buy nice items with good old American labels on them....
(very well respected companies you’ve known your whole life)
online purchasing since our local stores have so little stock
and
today...after receiving about 15 items, the very FIRST “Made in USA” one arrived. The other 14 “Pendletons” or whatevers.... turn out to ALL have been manufactured elsewhere (and this American one is a “vintage old stock” item that’s been sitting on a shelf for 30+ years, it is not currently made in America)
Honestly, gang, our system’s out of kilter... I am happy to purchase good quality merchandise from other countries, okay, but ALL of nearly EVERYTHING!?
try to purchase a TV or radio made in USA,
It will be sold in only one color. Beige. Why you ask? Haven’t you heard of Beige-Jin ?
Buicks are very popular in China, they are a status symbol, they are like BMWs to Americans
However I would never buy one
My oldest brother had a ‘68 Olds 442 the same color scheme as the Buick GS I posted above: turquoise with white interior. Also had a Hurst T-handle shifter.
These are being made specifically for the American market.
The Chevrolet Spark is actually a Daewoo and manufactured in Korea.
I want one of those t-shirts that says "I May Be Old, But I Got To Drive All The Cool Cars". Because I pretty much did.
Buick, beeuechhh
“try to purchase a TV or radio made in USA,”
To buy the last (new) American TV made here, a Zenith, you would have to take a time machine trip back to 1995.

I don’t regularly buy “stuff” anymore. Just groceries, fuel and services.
I had an `81 Buick Skylark. It was junk.
No comparison between Japanese-made vehicles and Chinese-made . Maybe someday , but not now .
They say it will sell under the Buick badge and be called the Envision. I say how about truth in advertising, sell it as the Chevy Crapmatic!
