All the "Trump/Cruz" slogans here for months have always amused me.

First, some Trump folks thought by adding "Cruz" to "Trump" they were avoiding heat and hostility from the Trump haters.

Second, the "dream team" idea that Trump would pick Cruz as his veep, or that Cruz would accept the useless, ceremonial, funeral-attending role of vice-president shows a lack of "real-politiks" understanding.

You can make book that Trump already has a fascinating, capable, well-known conservative in mind for his running mate...maybe even a true patriot from the high echelon of the retired military, who knows....but it definitely won't be the lackluster Cruz who has little to no charisma and who has remained mired in low-echelon ratings since the beginning.

There's an artificiality about Cruz, an emptiness that does not inspire confidence. Seems to be saying: "Look at me, A Canadian Latino running w/ the big guys. "

Cruz was born in Canada to an American mother, and latino father....Cruz ran for office as an unacknowledged dual Canadian-American citizen. It was not until a 2013 Dallas Morning News article that Cruz finally acknowledged his Canadian citizenry publicly. In 2014, he renounced his Canadian citizenship altogether....but nobody knows whether the Texans who elected him to office are aware of it. Cruz got elected touting his "latino" credentials.....even though only his father is supposedly latino.

The US presidency is not the place to shore up one's lack of self-esteem. Donald is confident, smart, and a real patriot. He does not need to check his self-esteem every few minutes.

Even a few weeks back, I would have disagreed with you a bit here.

Not any more, Cruz and his team have convinced me he’s not ready for prime time.

As a supporter of both Trump and Cruz, I have a dog in the fight. But I'm also a pastor and regularly speak in public and have a real feel for those who can do it well and those who can't.

Cruz can nail a speech, with charisma, without notes, and with evangelical authenticity. He is also highly intelligent, highly capable, and able to plan a course of action.

His plans are coming to fruition, and they will give Trump some concerns.

It's exactly the kind of person he would have hired.

There is also no way that Trump benefits from being anyone's VP. If nothing else his age gravitates against it. However, the 40 year old Cruz is at a stage that a successful VP term or two would catapult him into favorite status for either the 2020 or 2024 election.
