Should people on the no-fly list be able to buy guns? Yes. (Semi sanity?)
LA Times ^ | 12/7/2016 | The Times Editorial Board

Posted on 12/08/2015 12:18:14 PM PST by Torcert

One problem is that the people on the no-fly list (as well as the broader terror watch list from which it is drawn) have not been convicted of doing anything wrong. They are merely suspected of having terror connections. And the United States doesn't generally punish or penalize people unless and until they have been charged and convicted of a crime. In this case, the government would be infringing on a right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution — and yes, like it or not, the right to buy a gun is a constitutional right according to the U.S. Supreme Court. [..] But serious flaws in the list have been identified. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, which is suing the government over the no-fly list, the two lists include thousands of names that have been added in error, as well as the names of family members of suspected terrorists. The no-fly list has also been used to deny boarding passes to people who only share a name with a suspected terrorist. Former Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) was famously questioned at airports in 2004 because a terror suspect had used the alias "T. Kennedy."

What's more, it's not clear how much impact Feinstein's law would have. The broader watch list, which is actually a database maintained by the FBI's Terrorist Screening Center, apparently had about 480,000 names on it in 2011, according to the FBI, and it has since swelled to about 1.1 million names, according to the ACLU. Of those, the vast majority are noncitizens living overseas; the number of American citizens on the list is believed to be fewer than 10,000. [..] It is worth noting that the terrorist-list proposal would not have affected the San Bernardino attackers because neither of them was on the watch list.

Please keep in mind that in the past the Obama regime hasn't been reticent about labeling Gun owners and those who support the 2nd amendment as Terrorists:

So it is easily within the realm of possibility that they would simply classify gun owners of the wrong sort as 'Terrorists' as an instant gun ban.

Publish the “no fly” list and let’s all take a look at who is on it.

That would be an excellent Idea - but then people who were unfairly put on ‘the list’ would be able to sue to have their names removed by due process... and we can’t have that can we?

I’d like to know how people end up on that list. There’s 47,000 on it right now. Who put them there, and why?

I can tell you this - as soon as they pass a law banning guns from folks on that list, the list is going to explode to include My Little Pony, Bert and Ernie, Bob Ross the dead painter, the Pope, and Betty Crocker.

Not gonna’ do it.
It appears the no-fly list is our modern day Star Chamber.

“the two lists include thousands of names that have been added in error,”

Except in some cases, it may not have been an error. For example, someone from Fox News was on the no-fly list. These lists can easily be used against “enemies of the state” such as white, conservative Christians.

You can wind up on the no fly list just for annoying a flight attendant.

There are military folks who have flown to certain contries on commercial carriers commercially as part of their duties and wound they wound up on the no fly list.

“They” can put you on the no fly list for no reason at all. Convenient isn’t it?

(BTW, the Muzzies who triggered this latest attempt at a gun grab were NOT on a no fly list.)

Maybe the problem is the damned list.

If a citizen is on there they should be able to challenge it.

I have a very common first and last name. My name is on the no fly list. I gave up air travel years and years ago. It is just not worth the hassle. How does one get off the list?

You can’t. There is, to my knowledge, no process of appeal.

They shouldn’t use Teddy Kennedy as an example, after all, he killed one more person than either one of these terrorists had before their rampage a few days ago.

And have a process where people put on it can get off. The fact that there was a toddler on the list whose parents couldn’t get him off shows there is an issue with the lists.

List are not good for determining rights. Ones that are written by the government on a god given right is foolish.

I would wager that is exactly what they would love to use those list for that function.

Just do a https://ixquick.com/ search on the left labeling the right as terrorists and it’ll be clear that is their intent.

Read a story not long ago about a guy who was on the no-fly list. He was of Middle Eastern descent, but he was born in the US and his family converted to Christianity when this man was a baby. He had never been to the Middle East and had no family or other ties to the region. But his name was the same as or similar to that of a terrorist or terrorism suspect.

This man did go to court with all sorts of documentation proving he wasn't the terrorist with the same or similar name, but he lost. The judge allegedly told him he should just change his name.

Exactly.... and that would just be for starters..

I’m sure they have plans to go through the supposedly destroyed records looking for names added to ‘the list’ as confiscation targets.

{I’m saying it that way because I don’t want to accused of giving them ideas - most likely they have considered this all along}

That's the only one I care about

You want a list of every person ever put on the list ?

You'll look at it once .... for your name and your friends ... and forget about it
