Sanders unveils plan to address climate change
AP ^ | December 7, 2015 | Ken Thomas

WASHINGTON - Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is rolling out a plan to slow down the impact of climate change, vowing to cut U.S. carbon emissions by 40 percent by 2030.

The Democratic presidential candidate said in a proposal released Monday that he would seek to impose a tax on carbon dioxide pollution, long a non-starter with majority Republicans in Congress, and aim to slash carbon pollution in the U.S. by 80 percent by 2050 compared to levels in 1990. The proposal, he said, would put "people before the profits of polluters."

Sanders has made efforts to reduce global warming a cornerstone of his presidential campaign and his 16-page proposal, released as negotiators meet at the U.N. climate conference in Paris, provides the first extensive details on how he would seek to address it.

Sanders' plan sets goals of creating a 100 percent clean energy system sustained by wind and solar power but does not specify a timetable for doing so. It estimated the clean energy sector would create 10 million jobs and his plan would also seek to protect low-income and minority communities which have been adversely affected by massive storms like Hurricane Katrina.

It would seek to repeal billions in tax subsidies to oil, gas and other fossil fuel producers, which President Barack Obama has unsuccessfully sought throughout his presidency. It would also attempt to build upon Obama's work to promote more fuel efficiency in the nation's fleet of cars and trucks. Sanders would seek to raise fuel efficiency standards to 65 miles per gallon for passenger cars by 2025, a higher level compared with current plans to reach 54.5 miles per gallon for the 2025 model year.

Jane Fonda sounds climate change alarm in Toronto
The Star ^ | July 4, 2015 | Christopher Reynolds

"The climate change problem is the issue of our civilization. It will affect everything about our lives if we don't do something about it," she [Jane Fonda] says.

Here's Hanoi Jane remarking on the agenda that Obama refers to as (quote)
"The fundamental transformation of the United States of America"...

November 22, 1970 -- During a fund-raising tour for GI deserters, Vietnam Veterans Against the War and the Black Panthers, Jane Fonda is quoted in the Detroit Free Press as telling a University of Michigan audience:

"I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist," and "The peace proposal of the Viet Cong is the only honorable, just, possible way to achieve peace in Vietnam."

Fonda made the following statement at the University of Texas:
"We've got to establish a Socialist economic structure that will limit private profit-oriented businesses. Whether the transition is peaceful depends on the way our present governmental leaders react. We must commit our lives to this transition ...... We should be very proud of our new breed of soldier. It's not organized but it's mutiny, and they have every right." --Karen Elliott Dallas Morning News December 11, 1971

"The environment is suffering damage that could be irreversible - global warming, the greenhouse effect, the melting of the polar ice caps, the rising sea level, hurricanes - with terrible social occurrences that will shake life on this planet."

"I believe this idea has a strong connection with reality. I don't think we have much time. Fidel Castro said in one of his speeches I read not so long ago, 'tomorrow could be too late, let's do now what we need to do'."

"I believe it is time that we take up with courage and clarity a political, social, collective and ideological offensive across the world - a real offensive that permits us to move progressively, over the next years, the next decades, leaving behind the perverse, destructive, destroyer, capitalist model and go forward in constructing the socialist model to avoid barbarism and beyond that the annihilation of life on this planet."

Bin Laden blasts US for climate change

January 29, 2010

CAIRO - Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has called for the world to boycott American goods and the U.S. dollar, blaming the United States and other industrialized countries for global warming, according to a new audiotape released Friday.

In the tape, broadcast in part on Al-Jazeera television, bin Laden warned of the dangers of climate change and says that the way to stop it is to bring "the wheels of the American economy" to a halt.

We should institute a 50 percent state self sufficiency target for energy generation. Do this in the name of "distributed power," which has an iconic status on the left. Let New England figure out how to do that without clear cutting its forests to put wind farms along every ridge line and solar collectors on every hillside.

The basic lefty idea on energy is that it should be produced somewhere else and transmitted to liberal enclaves on a heavily subsidized basis, with the subsidies paid for by someone else.

What do “carbon emissions” have to do with climate change, anyway?

Increase (or decrease) of carbon dioxide has little to do with average temperatures around the globe, and it does not correlate with either an increase or decrease in climate events, such as precipitation, or length or degree of winter conditions or tropical conditions that may prevail, or in average sea level, or much of anything else. The effect is far too diffuse and uncertain.

The big controlling factor of overall average earth temperature and its effects on the atmosphere is not, and cannot ever be, the rather minute amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. it is water vapor, which has a HUGE moderating factor on atmospheric temperature throughout the course of a day, a year, a century, and millennia.

What makes up glaciers? Frozen water.

What makes up oceans? Liquid water.

How does the water get from the oceans to the glaciers?

Understand that cycle, and you have some inkling of WHY there shall never be either runaway cold or runaway heat temperature fluctuations over short periods of time.

He probably also doesn’t understand taxes are a cost of doing business. It’s the consumer that pays the bill.

And not once have they shown any proof we can control the climate....

Yet they wish us to spend trillions, impact millions of Amercian lives, so they can pretend to do so....

Insanity....

Why not just pass a law saying that no global warming is allowed?

It is the time honored Democrat approach to guns.

We ain't going to have to worry about "climate changes" if we don't do something about the illegal alien invasion of America

That's another clue that liberals really don't fear CO2. Americans use much more fossil fuel than Mexicans. Libs should be pushing to deport illegals, to reduce America's carbon footprint.

What do "carbon emissions" have to do with climate change, anyway?

It is all Reagan's fault. Seriously.

Back before Reagan, the environmental left focused all their attention on real pollution, i.e., substances that are poisonous to life and that are not naturally in the environment. The solution was more government control.

Then the Iron Curtain fell and it became obvious that the countries with the most government control - The Soviet Union and Eastern Europe - were all environmental cesspools. Meanwhile, as countries turned to capitalism and became more prosperous they also started cleaning up their pollution. Basic Maslow's hierarchy of needs. When you don't have to worry about feeding your children you start worrying about cleaning up your environment.

So the environmental left turned to carbon dioxide - a totally natural substance that is necessary for life on Earth. Why carbon dioxide? Because successful capitalistic countries produce more of it per capita than failed socialist countries. If you have a high GNP then you produce more electricity and naturally produce more carbon dioxide generating it.

The solution of course is still the same. More government control.

Lol! Good luck with your education, just focus on the scientific principle and apply it with common sense and you’ll do well. Maybe not in a gov’t job, but in the real world.

Nothing. But. A communist like Sanders will get to the point of revealing how he wants us stop breathing to help control CO2. I wonder if the dufuses that follow him even know they exhale CO2 and the subsequent correlation to their breathing and their cause?

Simplest way to deal with it has been around as long as the Seasons:

If it's too cold for you, turn up the heat/wear more clothing.

If it's too hot for your tastes, turn on the A/C and wear less clothing.

I am taking an environmental science class in college. The left are beyond the point of no return. They completely went off the deep end.

I asked my professor how taxing companies would reduce carbon emissions. He said, because of higher taxes, companies would use less carbon so they won’t have to pay. Seriously. I said, wouldn’t it be cheaper to lower the taxes so companies can devise cleaner means to produce energy? He couldn’t grasp that concept.

When was in College, circa 2007, around the time Gore's Movie came out and Global Warming was all the rage on College Campi.

I worked in the Library and one of our Liberians was a Total and Dedicated Greeny, 100% no doubt about it.

Well, of the many classes and seminars they put on. Some were pushing the Idea of Clean Coal and how America needed to switch to Natural Gas.

We put Books out on Display for the library on that subject and everything.

Well, Hells Bells, Guess what, What do we have today on a very few short years later?

And they are Against it >:(

The Issue is not the Issue, the Issue is the Revolution.

We spent years getting a clean coal plant approved here in Michigan only for the state to declare it unneeded and turn around and approve a wind farm.
