John Bel Edwards' transition team to examine restoring food stamp benefits
The (New Orleans) Times Picayune ^ | December 4, 2015 | Kevin Litten

Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration has decided not to re-apply for a waiver that allows out-of-work residents to apply for food stamp benefits after they've been on the program for three months.

But because Louisiana's unemployment rate is above the national average, Gov.-elect John Bel Edwards could decide to apply for the waiver once he takes office Jan. 11. Doing so could restore food stamp benefits, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, to as many as 64,000 Louisianians who have been unable to find work.

Gov.-elect John Bel Edwards pushes anti-poverty agenda
John Bel Edwards
The Times-Picayune By Kevin Litten
December 03, 2015

Gov.-elect John Bel Edwards has said he will work to boost the minimum wage in Louisiana if Congress does not act on a federal increase, but that’s not the only policy Edwards plans to put in place to help get more money to the working poor.

Edwards has also promised to double the state’s earned income tax credit, an effort supported by other Democrats such as New Orleans Rep. Walt Leger, who tried unsuccessfully to double the tax credit in the last legislative session.

The credit comes in the form of a tax refund for parents who are working but are classified as low- or moderate-income earners. It’s part of Edwards’ anti-poverty agenda, which includes Medicaid expansion that would provide health insurance to more than 250,000 people who are working but can’t afford to purchase coverage.

He’s building a government dependent constituency to assure future reelection.

He’s delivering exactly what the government dependent electorate that voted for him wants. These people are celebrated for unemployment, dependency, and unreliability. This man’s election simply signals to them that there will be no impediment for them to look for a job. one can look for the state of Louisiana to sink further into despair.

Brilliant! Gov.-elect John Bel Edwards has said he will work to boost the minimum wage in Louisiana if Congress does not act on a federal increase

The first thing a Democrat can think of when unemployment is out of control is to implement something that will drive it even higher.

Horsecrap. Vitter had won statewide twice, and was the most Conservative Senator since before the Huey Long era. he was no loser. The losers were the RINOs who did everything in their power to sabotage his candidacy and elect a leftist Democrat.

“Because Louisiana’s unemployment rate is above the national average...”

Jindal boasted that more Louisianaians were employed “than ever” in the state’s history during his administration.
Not sure about the entire history, because I didn’t look that far, but I did check census figures, and the number jumped in the 2010 census. Jindal was elected in 2007.
Much of this might be attributed to Katrina recovery, and to new business startups related to Jindal’s business-friendly tax policies.
When Obama announced a trip to N.O. for the Katrina 10th anniversary last August, he came to promote climate change.
Jindal wrote him a letter prior to the visit, saying essentially, we don’t need your stinking climate change here.
The Times Picayune was parroting Obama, running articles claiming climate change caused Katrina.

I’m expecting Edwards to bring in the enviro-nazis who’ll strangle the oil drillers, refineries and manufacturers with regulations and taxation.
Goodbye jobs.

People in LA would do anything to get a second Edwards, and they did! Oddly though, they said “No” to the original Edwin in 2014.
