Ted Cruz To Convene Congressional Hearing To Examine Claims Of Global Warming Activists
Daily Caller ^ | 12/2/15 | Alex Pappas

Posted on 12/02/2015 12:08:23 PM PST by VinL

As President Barack Obama and Democratic presidential candidates argue climate change is the biggest threat facing the world, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz plans to lead a congressional hearing next week to question the claims made by global warming activists.

Cruz .. the Republican chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Space, Science, and Competitiveness .. is convening a hearing titled: "Data or Dogma? Promoting Open Inquiry in the Debate over the Magnitude of Human Impact on Earth's Climate."

The hearing is scheduled to take place in Washington next Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. in the Senate Russell Office Building. As of now, Cruz has called at least four witnesses, including John Christy of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Judith Curry of the Georgia Institute of Technology and William Happer of Princeton University.

Mark Steyn . a conservative journalist who has written skeptically about global warming .. has also accepted an invitation to appear before the committee.

In a statement provided to TheDC, Cruz said:

As the son of two scientists, I have been taught since I was very young that scientific conclusions should be based on the evidence and the data. The inconvenient truth, for global warming alarmists in 2015, is that for the past 17 years the satellite temperature data have shown almost no warming of the Earth’s climate. This is especially inconvenient for them because the models all showed that the Earth should have continued rapidly warming during this time. In response, we have seen global warming alarmists resort to the language of theology, calling all those who question the alarmists’ conclusions, including many in the scientific community, ‘deniers.’ And they are being called that merely for saying, ‘hold on a minute. Before we make radical policy changes that will have a substantive impact on our economy, jobs and quality of life for millions of Americans, we should take a minute to ensure that these policies are based on real science and real data.’ Especially when the solution to the purported problem always seems to be more and more government.

I look forward to our hearing next week and talking with the witnesses about what is really happening in the field of climate science, and how we can ensure that U.S. policymaking is based on the evidence and the data, and not merely the wishes of liberal global warming alarmists.

A source says Cruz attempted to invite Sierra Club president Aaron Mair to the hearing, but the Sierra Club declined to make him available. Mair and Cruz, a Texas senator, previously sparred over global warming during a committee hearing in October on Capitol Hill.

Cruz's hearing comes as the President Obama traveled to Paris this week to participate in climate change talks, pushing for international action.

There was a hearing a little while back and it did no good.

We need both houses and the Whitehouse to get anything done.

Good list of "climate misinformers", or so they are called by the Glow Bull Warmists.

It's a political battle, fought on a number of fronts. Shining the light of truth on warmists and exposing them to the public is part of the battle.

Smart smart move by Ted Cruz. But more is needed. These pseudo-scientists, many of whom have improper shaky credentials for addressing issues of global climate, should be brought front center to discuss their qualifications, their funding sources and their performance under scientific scrutiny. Those that are found to be paid mouthpieces, political operatives or known subversives should be blacokballed from emplyment from any entity receiving federal funding.

Since global warming is not a major concern of voters (corrections welcome) Cruz should concentrate on jobs (1.8.3 trade issues) and terrorism imo.

Global Warming might not be a major concern, but jobs lost DUE to the war on CO2 should be. Those skyrocketing utility rates, the increased price of cars trying to meet new standards, closed plants and mines, scads of regulations on everything from the temperature of your hotel shower to your children's science curriculum stem from this.

We need both houses and the Whitehouse to get anything done.

If we do nothing, then the argument that "the science is settled" is more convincing to those who don't follow these things closely. Just openly demonstrating that the science is far from settled is absolutely necessary even if you don't get what you want right away. The left has been doing this forever. We have to be tenacious, and we have to be patient.

Since glowbull warming is a top priority of obama and the result will be sucking trillions of dollars from the economy I think Cruz is intent on educating those voters who do not think it is a priority, we all should have more than “concern” as you call it, we all should be activists against this fraud, waste and abuse, that could ultimately plunge the US into financial crisis that would make obamacare look like a stroll in the park.

"Global Warming might not be a major concern, but jobs lost DUE to the war on CO2 should be."

With all due respect Dr. Sirvana, please consider the following. Regardless if global warming had already been reasonably proven by the consistent results of repeatable, scientific method-based experiments, it remains that the states have never amended the Constitution to regulate, tax and spend in the name of finding a solution for global warming.

So why is Constitution expert Cruz not mentioning anything about possibly leading Congress to propose a global warming amendement to the Constitution to the states for ratification so that the feds would actually have the constitutional authority to do something about global warming if he became president?

Otherwise, Cruz and Congress would wrongly have to address global warming issues without the required constitutional authority to do so. And if that was the case then we might as well keep Obama.

“now”

Nice try.Cruz has been all over this hoax from the get-go. Do a little research - or is it easier to just denigrate him at any pretense, figuring most will swallow it.. - ?

Here, here’s just ONE example -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX6nDrqUKKA

but then, Trump has a handle on it -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzcSXsSbMpU

If you do a search on either for ‘climate control - there’s precious little - and of no substance - on climate control from Trump

a lot on Cruz - and his activity against it.

This is why control of the Senate, even if it means having RINOs in the caucus, is a good thing.

Chairs can convene hearings and set agendas. Put people under oath and question away. Cruz would not be able to do this if the Dems were still the majority.

it remains that the states have never amended the Constitution to regulate, tax and spend in the name of finding a solution for global warming.

There are all sorts of things not explicitly spelled out in the Constitution that the courts have held to be proper functions of the federal government. Besides that, certain clauses in the Constitution can be used in unexpected ways for justification.

You will notice that Obama has gone out of his way to tie "climate change" to military defense matters. That is one of the many ways to get out of Constitutional restrictions. In similar manner, the U.S. Interstate system started under Eisenhower used military preparedness as its justification. Anything from effects on interstate commerce, international trade and postal roads can be used as justification for something like climate change. Real treaties (not the bogus "agreements" that we tend to do these days) also have some real teeth if we actually ratify them.
